Job summary

Emergn seeks a Senior Python Developer to own a business-critical Python platform and help it grow. You will develop backend services and APIs using Python and Flask, and work with MongoDB, Celery, and data tools in a fast-moving, collaborative setting.

You’ll join an international team based in Portugal, contributing to end-to-end solutions, improving code quality, and leveraging AI tools to boost productivity. The role emphasizes learning, growth, and delivering impact.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional Python development experience.
• Strong knowledge of Python Fundamentals and advanced concepts.
• Hands-on experience building REST APIs with Flask.
• Experience with background jobs and asynchronous processing using Celery and RabbitMQ.
• Hands-on experience with MongoDB (PyMongo).
• Experience writing automated tests and working with Git and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and Flask.
• Understand and extend an existing, complex application without breaking existing functionality.
• Design and implement asynchronous processing and background job workflows using Celery and RabbitMQ.
• Work with MongoDB and process data using Pandas and NumPy.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve application issues.
• Maintain code quality through automated tests, PRs, and code reviews.
• Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Use GitHub Copilot and other AI tools to work more effectively.
• Fill documentation gaps and contribute to technical best practices.

We want you to:

• Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and Flask.
• Understand the behaviour of an existing, complex application and build new features without impacting what already works.
• Design and implement asynchronous processing and background job. workflows using Celery and RabbitMQ
• Work with MongoDB and process data using Pandas and NumPy.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve application issues.
• Keep code quality high through automated tests, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions.

This job might be for you if you have:

• 4+ years of professional software development experience, with Python as your main language.
• Solid knowledge of Python, from the fundamentals to more advanced concepts.
• Hands‑on experience building REST APIs with Flask.
• Experience with background jobs and asynchronous processing using Celery and a message broker such as RabbitMQ.
• Hands‑on experience with MongoDB, ideally through PyMongo.
• Experience writing automated tests and making safe changes in large, existing codebases.Comfort working with Git and GitHub, pull requests, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
• Professional working proficiency in English.

You might also have:

• Experience with Pandas and NumPy for data processing.
• Experience with GitHub Actions.
• Experience with AWS services.
• Knowledge of Node.js or Vue.js.
• Experience in financial services projects, such as pensions or insurance.
