Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited seeks a Senior Contracts & Procurement Solicitor in Luton on a 3-month contract for the Local Authority. The role focuses on high-quality advice on complex commercial contracts, procurement and governance, with emphasis on risk assessment and project support.

The post requires 6+ years PQE, experience in public procurement and the ability to draft, negotiate and manage major contracts across sectors such as construction, IT and social care.

Qualifications

• Admitted Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEX qualified in England; current practising certificate.
• Minimum 6 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE).
• Significant experience providing legal advice on public procurement, commercial contracts and governance matters.
• Strong experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts (construction, IT, social care).
• Knowledge of GDPR and public sector procurement governance.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional, practical and commercially focused legal advice on complex commercial contracts and procurement matters.
• Manage a varied and complex caseload across goods, services and works including construction, IT and public health contracts.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial and procurement documents.
• Advise on compliance with procurement legislation, the Council’s Standing Orders, and governance requirements.
• Assess risks and provide proportionate advice to support decision-making and objectives.
• Participate in project teams and provide legal input to major, collaborative projects.
• Prepare and present reports and provide guidance to executives and committees on complex matters.
