Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

Weare pleased to be recruiting to an exciting leadership opportunity within NHS PlymouthTalking Therapies. The serviceis undergoing development and expansion to continue to provide evidence basedpsychological therapies aligned to the NHS Talking Therapies model. We are looking to recruita qualified and accredited PWP who has clinical experience within an NHS TalkingTherapy service and is trained to provide clinical supervision.

The focus for this position will be on supporting the ongoing professional development of our trainees and newly qualified PWPs.

Please note that this role may not be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route, please refer to the Direct Gov website for more information with regards to eligibility.

Main duties of the job

The focus of this role is working alongside the Lead PWP and other SPWPs to support our trainees working towards their qualification both through the PG Cert and MSci routes. You will also work with the Lead PWP on development and delivery of our preceptorship programme for newly qualified PWPs.

Job responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Post-

The post-holder will offer case management andclinical supervision to both qualified and trainee PWPs, reporting to theLead PWP.

The post holder will have a close workingrelationship with the NHS Talking Therapies Clinical leads and across theleadership team, reporting any operational issues in the delivery of the Lowintensity model.

The post-holder will have delegated line-managementresponsibilities for other PWPs, under the direction of the NHS TalkingTherapies Service Manager, e.g. sickness absence monitoring, undertakingappraisals, performance monitoring.

The post-holder will offer the full range ofevidence-based low intensity interventions, including facilitated self-help,cCBT and psychoeducational groups.

The post holder will work with peoplewith different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters whennecessary and may be called upon to work in various community settings (including GP surgeries and communitysettings).

1.0Clinical

1.1To provide suitability assessments for patients onentering an NHS Talking Therapies service via a range of means ie viatelephone or face to face.

1.2To provide LI interventions to patients with mild tomoderate presentations of anxiety and depression.

1.3Interventions will be via 1:1 LI sessions, cCBT(Silvercloud), and psycho-educational groups utilising a blend of face toface and virtual mediums.

1.4To clinically work within the NHS Talking Therapies structureand guidance.

1.5Use appropriate NICE recommended treatments forpresentations of anxiety and depression.

1.6Use appropriate outcome measures from availabilitywithin IAPTus to evidence a patients treatment outcomes.

1.7Collect NHS Talking Therapy MDS on each clinicalcontact.

1.8Provide interventions to a broad range of clientswho have common mental health problems who are over 16.

1.9To work in collaboration with other agencies andprofessionals.

1.10 To followsafeguarding procedures when required, ensuring accurate objective recordingof information.

1.11 On completionof treatment review the patients journey and ensure appropriatesignposting/referral on is provided as required for patients.

1.12 To understandthe mental health network of Plymouth in order to best support patients.

1.13 To be able toassess patients who are at risk of harm to themselves or others via arecognised tool and make appropriate action plans for their needs.

1.14 Completeaccurate contemporaneous records in line with Livewell SW clinical recordkeeping policy.

1.15 To clinicallysupport junior PWPs in their clinical work being available to be able tosupport and challenge when required to embed safe, effective treatment plansfor patients.

2.0Management

2.1Provide oversight of the PWP team alongside otherpost holder.

2.2Act as a professional leader for the PWP team.

2.3Provide information to the Service Manager/Clinicallead which may impact on Service Delivery and / or patient safety.

2.4To provide line management to an agreed number ofPWPs, including monitoring of sickness absence, performance, record keeping,and providing oversight and support for staff development by completingannual appraisal with staff. To follow Livewell SW policies and procedures inrespect of Line management processes.

2.5Facilitate team meetings for the PWP team, ensuringinformation is transient between the team and the Service Manager.

2.6Have oversight of PWP provision, including volume ofassessment, treatment appointments, and group/workshop facilitation.

2.7To represent Plymouth Options in a positive mannerand supporting the profile of Plymouth Options and the provisions available.

2.8To support the ongoing change process that isinherent in a health care environment, reporting challenges to the ServiceManager.

2.9Provide feedback to the Service Manager as totraining requirements for team in order to sustain safe effective delivery ofinterventions.

2.10 Represent thePWP team positively and proactively at relevant meetings or forums.

2.11 To supportdeveloping staff complete competencies.To report to Service Manager and concerns with clinical competence soa plan can be implemented for that individual.

2.12 Attendlocality meetings as requested by the Lead PWP/ Service Manager.

2.13 To communicateconcerns/risks to the Lead PWP/ Service Manager ensuring that online incidentreport is completed.

2.14To provide weekly caseload management to delegatedmembers of the PWP team in line with the national NHS Talking Therapy deliveryrecommendations.

3.0Professional

3.1Ensurethe maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and anyregulating body and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set bythe department of health (e.g NHS plan, National Service Framework, NationalInstitute for Clinical Excellence).

3.2Ensurethat client confidentiality is protected at all times.

3.3Beaware of, and keep up to date with advances in the spheres of treatment forcommon mental health problems.

3.4Ensureclear objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with seniortherapists on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development.

3.5Attend clinical/managerial supervision on aregular basis as agreed with Manager.

3.6Participatein individual performance review and respond to agreed objectives.

3.7Keepup to date all records in relation to Continuing Professional Development andensure personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge oflatest theoretical and service delivery models/developments.

3.8Attendrelevant conferences / workshops in line with identified professionalobjectives.

3.9Actas a role model for other staff demonstrating high standards of professionalconduct and clinical practice based on NICE guidance.

3.10Positivelypromote the model of NHS Talking Therapies to other service areas, andreferrers.

4.0Communication

4.1To demonstrate excellent communication skills, withclients, staff, family members, and wider health network.

4.2To ensure information about individuals assessmentsand treatment is accurately recorded using the clinical record system -IAPTus.

4.3Provide support to team members to develop efficientrecord keeping.

4.4Is able to impart complex and sensitive informationto patients and families/carers andrelated health care professionals.

4.5To escalate areas of concern to relevant Line Manager/Supervisor.

4.6To report incidents according the Livewell policy.

5.0Education andTraining

5.1To assume responsibility for own personaldevelopment.

5.2To provide support to new post holders, and identifytraining needs via mode of PDP.

5.3To ensure Livewell SW mandatory training iscompleted at scheduled times.

5.4To have oversight of teams training schedule.

6.0Humanresources

6.1To support in conjunction with the other postholderto deliver case management to the PWP team.

6.2To support the recruitment and selection of new postholders.

6.3To ensure Health Rostering is maintained.

6.4To ensure staff are supported to access staffwellbeing and support services.

7.0Physical Effort

7.1Role will involve a lot of sitting with clients intherapy rooms. May require some standing for 2 hours at a time whilstdelivering groups.

8.0Mental Effort

8.1Frequentrequirement for intense concentration in the delivery of high quality lowintensity intervention by being closely attuned to the Service Userspsychological state, assessing this and responding appropriately.

9.0Emotional Effort

9.1Frequent exposure to distressing or emotionalcircumstances arising from therapeutic contact with Service Users (includingrelatives and carers) requiring emotional engagement with the materialdiscussed, emotional self-regulation by the therapist and the delivery of atherapeutic response within professional boundaries.

Qualifications
  • Degree level education or evidence of educational qualifications plus experience equivalent to degree level
  • and
  • NHS Talking Therapies Post Graduate Certificate in Psychological Well-being Practitioner or equivalent.
  • Current accreditation with British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) or British Psychological Society (BPS).
  • PWP Long Term Conditions training.
  • Completed or in the process of completing Low Intensity Supervision training.
  • Training and experience in risk management.
