Stantec is seeking a Senior Protection & Control Engineer to lead design and delivery of P&C engineering for substation projects across North America. You will develop protection and control drawings, relay settings, and safety-compliant control room layouts while coordinating with civil, telecom, and SCADA teams.

500kV levels. The candidate should understand substation and power system protection schemes as they relate to the design of protection and control systems.

Your Key Responsibilities

Develop protection and control engineering drawings for substation and power system applicationsDesign protection schemes, including relay settings, control logic, control room layouts, and panel layoutsPrepare complete P&C engineering design packages, including drawings, specifications, and construction work packagesPerform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews of P&C designs and deliverablesPrepare technical reports that clearly communicate engineering concepts and meet client requirementsCoordinate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., civil, structural, telecom, SCADA) to deliver integrated designsLead and mentor Junior and Intermediate engineersProvide regular progress updates on assigned deliverables and project milestonesSupport commissioning activities, field engineering, and site troubleshootingInterface directly with clients and provide support in coordinating project executionSupport drafting activities, as required, to complete deliverablesDevelopment of Project Estimates

Strong safety mindset and commitment to safe engineering practicesExperience developing P&C drawing packages, specifications, and construction documentation for substation projectsUnderstanding of client standards, specifications, and applicable codes and regulations (including Canadian Electrical Code)Ability to support site visits, gather field data, and assist with substation upgrade and expansion projectsProficiency with MS Office Suite, Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat, and AutoCADStrong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and stakeholdersSelf-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized, with strong time management skillsDemonstrated ability to support continuous improvement and process optimization initiativesAbility to manage and deliver engineering work in alignment with project schedules and budgetsAbility to work closely with engineers, designers, and project leads to meet deliverable timelinesValid driver's license with ability to travel to project sites

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.Eligible for registration as an Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or equivalent.12+ years of relevant P&C experience; experience working with utilities in North America is an asset (BC Hydro experience preferred).

Pay Range:

Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$111,700.00 - $167,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
