Job Description

Service Care Legal are working on behalf of a North London Council to recruit an experienced Property Lawyer to join their in-house legal team on an interim basis. This role is ideally suited to a legal professional with a strong grasp of both commercial and residential property law, especially within the local government context.

Job Title: Senior Property Lawyer
Location: North London
Contract: 3-Month Ongoing Assignment
Rate: £40–£50 per hour umbrella (£44.51ph PAYE inc. holiday pay, £39.72ph PAYE exc. Holiday pay)

Hybrid – 1 day per week in the office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver clear, pragmatic legal advice on a wide range of property law matters, including landlord and tenant disputes, lease agreements, disposals, and acquisitions.
  • Draft, negotiate, and complete legal documentation such as leases, licences, deeds, transfers, and sales contracts.
  • Manage Right to Buy transactions from inception to completion.
  • Apply a sound understanding of landlord and tenant law, general property law, and relevant case law to support council services.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external solicitors, and stakeholders to ensure compliance and risk management across property-related transactions.
  • Prioritise and manage a varied caseload effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Requirements:
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Legal Executive with a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Strong experience across both commercial and residential property matters.
  • A solid understanding of landlord and tenant law, property law, and associated case law is essential.
  • Proven experience working within a local authority legal team.
  • Skilled in drafting, reviewing, and completing a wide range of property legal documents, including leases and contractual agreements.
