A leading financial services organization in the UK seeks a Senior Engineering Manager to oversee engineering standards and ensure compliance across its property portfolio. The role involves collaboration with stakeholders to drive innovation, efficiency, and operational excellence, while championing sustainable engineering practices. As the Senior Engineering Manager, you will be the driving force behind the technical integrity and operational excellence of our entire property portfolio. This is a strategic leadership role where you will define, implement, and govern engineering standards that ensure every asset operates safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements. You will provide strategic oversight of all engineering systems and infrastructure, setting the benchmark for performance, resilience, and sustainability. Ensuring consistency across assets, embedding best practice in design, maintenance, and lifecycle management. From energy efficiency and smart building technologies to critical systems reliability, you will lead initiatives that reduce risk, optimise cost, and enhance the colleague and customer experience. This role is about more than compliance; it’s about innovation and continuous improvement. You will champion the adoption of emerging technologies, data‑driven maintenance strategies, and sustainable engineering solutions that future‑prove our portfolio. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, you will influence major investment decisions and represent engineering in governance forums, ensuring that technical excellence underpins every property decision.
Develop and maintain technical standards and specifications for building services, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Ensuring engineering practices align with statutory regulations, industry codes of practice, and internal policies.
Lead periodic reviews and updates of engineering standards in response to regulatory changes, innovation, or operational feedback. Ensuring engineering standards are embedded in procurement, contractor management, and project delivery processes.
Provide expert oversight of engineering systems across the property portfolio, including HVAC, electrical distribution, fire systems, and water hygiene.
Conduct technical audits and inspections to ensure compliance and performance.
Support incident investigations and root‑cause analysis for engineering‑related failures or risks.
Advise on engineering design and technical specifications for capital projects, refurbishments, and lifecycle replacements.
Review and approve engineering documentation, commissioning plans, and handover procedures.
Maintain a register of engineering risks and ensure mitigation plans are in place.
Collaborate with Workplace Experience, Capital Projects, and external consultants/suppliers to ensure consistent application of engineering standards.
Act as a technical authority and advisor to senior leadership and operational teams.
Representing the organisation in industry forums and regulatory engagements.
Systems and Procedures: Familiarity with CAFM systems, SFG20, JCT & NEC contracts, and the RIBA Construction Plan of Work.
Quality Assurance: Understand industry regulation and best practices, including embedding of procedural compliance and control frameworks.
Creativity & Innovative Thinking: Experienced at coaching others to identify, analyse, and stimulate new opportunities for growth, profit, and competitive advantage.
Using external insights to look beyond financial services for ideas and adopts, amends and tailors them to make it fit‑for‑purpose to the Group.
Business and Commercial Insight: Possesses deep understanding of the business and has experience in shaping priorities and strategy using detailed industry insights as well as external, economic, social and competitor trends.
Collaboration: demonstrates strong collaboration skills, advocating the value of ongoing collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to realise the Group’s strategy and creates opportunities for cross‑cultural, cross‑business network building and collaboration.

Professional Qualifications: Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) in a relevant discipline (e.g., CIBSE, IET, IMechE).
Professional Experience: Extensive experience in building services engineering, ideally within large‑scale or complex estates, including a proven track record of developing and implementing engineering standards.
