Job Summary

The Senior Project Manager - II is the primary accountable for end-to-end execution of assigned Capital projects ranging from $5M to $10M, with potential execution of projects up to $15M. The role involves collaboration with leadership, technology, maintenance, operations, engineering, safety, and quality teams. The Project Manager ensures capital project implementation, status reporting, and optimal utilization of site/external engineering teams, adhering to site and corporate processes. This position requires substantial expertise and experience, capable of leading complex projects across different business units.

Responsibilities/Description

  • Coordinate with Project Sponsor and Divisional Engineering Director to develop Business Objectives Letter.
  • Lead and contribute to developing project objectives.
  • Coordinate with Site and Regional Engineering Managers to develop project execution strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Collaborate with Finance to develop economic models supporting project justification and prioritization.
  • Assess project team capabilities, identify gaps, and support staffing needs.
  • Provide leadership to ensure clear roles, manageable workloads, and effective cross-functional communication.
  • Drive external engineering collaborations efficiently.
  • Engage regularly with the steering team for alignment, issue resolution, and status updates.
  • Define and monitor Key Performance Indicators, communicating results to stakeholders.
  • Guide Process Engineers and Manufacturing Technology teams in data development and quality assurance.
  • Facilitate Value Improving Practices and ensure implementation of minimum essential solutions.
  • Guide design teams across disciplines, identify deliverables, and resolve design challenges.
  • Ensure all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) reviews and Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements are incorporated.
  • Advise on Inherently Safer Processes and engage Process Hazard Analysis experts as needed.
  • Oversee Front-End Loading (FEL) process, ensuring quality and completeness of deliverables.
  • Lead evaluations of scope alternatives, risk analyses, and mitigation planning.
  • Manage project gatekeeping reviews and early engagement with sourcing for contracting strategies.
  • Drive vendor selection and manage site staffing for commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Ensure schedules align with supply chain and operational needs, including outages.
  • Oversee field construction activities, safety plans, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform safety audits, develop construction schedules, and manage contractor adherence.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates and maintain integrated project schedules.
  • Conduct critical path analysis, prepare funding requests, and monitor expenditures.
  • Champion the 'no change' policy, ensuring only justified modifications are approved.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Process or related engineering fields (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Bio-Tech, Food Technology).
  • Strong understanding of Stage Gated Capital Execution process.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with overlapping schedules.
  • Excellent decision-making and leadership skills in diverse, multifunctional teams.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in capital project management and execution in active production environments.
  • Track record managing projects over $5M.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.

Training / Certifications

  • Construction Safety Rules & Regulations (OSHA 510 or equivalent).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
