Job description

Are you ready to shape the future of complex engineering programmes in the maritime sector?

My client is seeking a Senior Project Planner to lead the development and management of integrated schedules across several high-value, multi-year programmes.

As a core member of the Programmes team, you'll work closely with Programme Managers, Engineers, Scrum Masters, and customers to build robust, dynamic schedules that underpin delivery success, strategic decision-making, and governance. You'll play a critical role in visualising the path to delivery, managing interdependencies, and driving performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain high-quality, integrated master schedules using Microsoft Project.

  • Manage the critical path, perform resource and scenario planning, and support risk-based decision-making.

  • Align schedules with Agile planning inputs (epics, sprints) and traditional work package structures.

  • Support programme delivery with clear, insightful schedule performance reporting.

  • Own schedule governance, change control, and quality assurance processes.

  • Coordinate with customer-side planners to align milestones and reporting expectations.

  • Mentor team members and embed best-practice planning standards across the programme.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-year engineering schedules (defence, aerospace, or similar).

  • Expert in Microsoft Project and Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) development.

  • Strong understanding of risk-informed planning, scenario modelling, and dependency management.

  • Comfortable working in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery environments (JIRA familiarity a plus).

  • Skilled communicator with a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement.

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.

Desirable:

  • Exposure to Earned Value Management (EVM) and schedule-cost integration.

  • Membership of APM, PMI, or a similar professional body.

What do they have to offer?

  • A high-impact role at the heart of strategic, nationally significant programmes.

  • Flexible and hybrid working options to support work-life balance.

  • Ongoing professional development within a collaborative, growth-focused team.

  • The opportunity to shape the successful delivery of complex defence engineering initiatives.

Some company benefits are:

  • TOIL
  • Flexible working hours
  • 1pm finish on a Friday
  • Annual bonus
  • Casual dress
  • 25 days holiday
  • Christmas shut down.
  • Option to buy or sell holiday.
  • Option to purchase private health care, dental, critical illness etc via salary sacrifice.
  • Reward hub - discounts at over 200 online stores
  • 4 x annual salary life cover
