Job Title: Senior Project Planner

Salary: up to £55,516 depending on experience

Contract: Permanent

Location: Peterborough, UK

This position requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.

About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat and Perkins engines that power over 5,000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary

In this role you will be a Senior Project Planner within the IPSD-M Product Management team, reporting to the 2.8l to 3.6l Product Manager. You will create and maintain multiple, complex project plans that support both current product requirements and future New Product Introduction (NPI) needs. You will work with multiple cross-functional project teams across different sites covering projects that range from new business opportunities to product phase out. You will be part of a team responsible for delivering and maintaining world class engines and power systems across a range of market segments, meeting the challenges of today and preparing for the opportunities of the future.

In conjunction with the Program Manager, this role is to successfully lead the facilitation of the Project Management process across large cross-functional teams, to sustain progress within our current product and NPI Program’s. This role will specifically involve:

  • Coordination and management of Project Planning Workshops

  • Creation of Project Charters including scope definition and Program Objectives

  • Establish plan structures, initial Work Breakdown Structures and Network Diagrams that identify precedence relationships, durations and resources for all activities

  • Creation of a structured and fully linked Master Control Plan (MCP)

  • Coordinate control session, inclusive of plan updates and maintenance

  • Establish, communicate and manage resolution of critical path issues and conflict between team members and teamwork issues

  • Collaborate with the team to ensure deliverables are met to time, budgeted cost and quality requirements

  • Demonstrated control by reporting metrics against time, cost and quality targets

  • Presentation of Project progress at regular intervals to the Business

  • Train, mentor and coach NPI teams on the utilisation of the Project Management process and culture

What You Have:

The principles of Project Management and Business knowledge of the New Product Introduction (NPI) process are a prerequisite to enable you to succeed in this role, ideally with 3+ years prior experience in a similar role, accompanied with the following attributes and personal characteristics:

  • Strong and conscientious leadership requiring little supervision

  • Clear and concise communication, inclusive of good listening, analytical and organisational skills

  • Risk management capability

  • Enthusiasm and appetite for daily challenges

  • Excellent Microsoft Project skills with good Excel, Word and PowerPoint ability

  • Team player with excellent people skills

What You Will Get:

In this role you will get the opportunity to interact across multiple disciplines from Suppliers to Customers. You will manage project plans that cover end-to-end product development from Concept Design to Production to Aftermarket Support. You will get ownership for program plans and work closely with Program Managers to implement successfully.
