Hitachi Energy in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead complex transformer projects across transmission, distribution, renewables and industrial sectors, delivering safely, on schedule and within budget.

  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, manufacturing, planning, commercial and site teams.
  • Monitor progress, identify risks and opportunities, and implement mitigations.
  • Manage project financials: forecasting, cost control, invoicing and cash flow.
  • Support contract administration, change management, claims, and close-out activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ensure all project activities comply with quality, health, safety and environmental standards.

Job description

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our Transformers Business Unit, responsible for delivering complex transformer projects across the transmission, distribution, renewable energy, and industrial sectors.

In this role, you will lead the successful execution of projects involving the supply, installation, commissioning, and delivery of power transformers and associated electrical infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in line with contractual and customer requirements.

Working closely with customers, engineering teams, manufacturing facilities, and supply chain partners, you will play a key role in delivering critical power infrastructure projects that support the energy transition and grid modernisation.

How You'll Make an Impact
  • Lead the successful delivery of transformer projects from contract award through to final handover.

Your BackgroundEssential
  • Proven Project Management experience within the power, utilities, or energy infrastructure sector.
  • Experience delivering projects involving transformers, substations, switchgear, or other high-voltage electrical equipment.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery methodologies, commercial management, and contract execution.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, and construction environments.
  • Excellent customer-facing, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the capability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Engineering qualification (HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent industry experience).
Desirable
  • Experience within transformer manufacturing, transformer installation, or transformer service environments.
  • Exposure to transmission and distribution projects, renewable energy developments, or industrial power projects.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems and grid infrastructure.
  • Professional Project Management qualifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, APM or equivalent.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution.
