As a Senior Project Manager at WSP in the PMCM Rail team, you will lead the delivery of complex rail projects of regional and international significance. Your responsibilities include ensuring projects are delivered safely, with high quality, on time, and within budget.

Our Senior Project Managers are proactive, capable of managing requirements, budgets, schedules, and risks, and influencing others to deliver successfully. They possess strong technical skills, communicate clearly, and are solution-focused, ready to take on new challenges. You will collaborate with external clients and multidisciplinary teams, utilizing WSP offices, client offices, and site locations to deliver strategic programs.

We support a healthy work-life balance and encourage flexible working. You will be based in our modern, vibrant offices across the UK, with a minimum of three days in-office work and occasional site visits.

Your Role

  • Leading a project team
  • Coordinating disciplines through meetings and workshops to resolve issues promptly and meet safety, functional, and regulatory standards
  • Establishing processes and procedures to manage the project alongside the Client’s team

Client liaison

  • Acting as the primary contact for clients to meet their needs during design and construction
  • Developing and managing client relationships through effective communication
  • Providing monthly reports and data scenarios to senior management

Stakeholder Management

  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and community groups
  • Facilitating meetings, presentations, and progress reports
  • Managing stakeholder expectations and concerns

Commercial and Risk Management

  • Managing contracts (including NEC3/4)
  • Tracking and reporting project budgets
  • Optimizing resources and ensuring financial targets are met
  • Reviewing expenditures and managing changes/delays
  • Identifying and mitigating risks, managing RFIs and communications

Safety and compliance

  • Driving safety performance and compliance with CDM regulations
  • Ensuring activities are conducted safely and responsibly

Project Planning

  • Defining scope, goals, and deliverables
  • Creating and managing detailed project plans
  • Overseeing execution and ensuring adherence to schedules
  • Monitoring progress and implementing corrective actions

Innovation and Efficiency

  • Driving innovative solutions and process improvements
  • Evaluating new technologies to enhance project performance

Qualifications & Experience

  • A degree in engineering or management discipline
  • Chartered membership or near completion
  • Relevant certifications (APM, MSP, PMI, PRINCE2, Six Sigma)
  • 10+ years in project management, including technical and project controls
  • Experience with significant projects and client-side delivery
  • Experience with rail organizations like Network Rail, HS2, TfGM is advantageous
  • Proven success managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Curiosity, solution-focus, responsiveness
  • NEC4 Project Manager accreditation
