As part of the drive to meet the infrastructure needs of communities in Scotland’s second fastest growing local authority, Midlothian Council is seeking to recruit a dynamic, effective, and client-focused project manager to be the Educational lead on major projects as part of their Learning Estates team.

You will be the Education Project Manager representing the Department on project boards, facing our in-house multi-disciplinary Development Team – which oversees the delivery of the Council’s ambitious capital programme, providing project management for complex multi-million pound projects. You will be responsible for the delivery of capital projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, according to governance arrangements, and to specified quality standards, delivering value that meets the needs of our communities now and in the future.

Significant projects in the Learning Estate capital programme include: three new High Schools, 8 new primary schools (5 before 2025), and numerous extensions for Primary education, Early Years, and accommodation for Additional Support Needs.

You will lead in monitoring, updating, and reporting on the progress of the Council’s Learning Estate Strategy through your membership of the Project Boards.

You will be responsible for ensuring the suitability of our Learning Estate by conducting annual surveys.

Knowledge

It is essential that the jobholder has substantial project management experience, with a proven track record of client responsibilities on large capital projects. Some knowledge of the planning process is required. Additionally, the jobholder must have well-developed communication skills, including good interaction and the ability to deliver engaging presentations.

The role requires skills in report writing, meeting deadlines, conceptual thinking, and communicating advice and guidance clearly, supported by extensive relevant project management experience.

Salary: Starting at £46,511.92 per annum (based on working 36 hours/week for 52 weeks)
