Job Description:

The M25 is one of our Flagship projects in the UK! It is the most used part of the UK Strategic Road Network with it seeing over 200,000 vehicles per day and it’s a critical infrastructure asset for personal and goods vehicles into and around our capital. The network includes around 800 structures and 5 tunnels, so it requires high levels of performance, constant improvement, and repairs to keep it operating smoothly.

We’ve formed a Joint Venture project called Connect Plus Services (CPS) to work with our partners to widen, operate, and maintain the M25 under a 30-year contract. We are looking for a Senior Project Manager to deliver project objectives across six key areas of performance: Health & Safety, Quantity, Cost, Environment, Delivery & People.

You will be a dynamic and self-motivated individual with a strong project background keen to deliver complex highways schemes throughout their lifecycle, ranging in value from £20k to over £4m. This role involves direct line management of project managers, assistant project managers, and early careers. You will be responsible for delivering projects on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities / duties:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including the Portfolio Manager, SPM, Construction/Supervisor Teams, and external stakeholders, to ensure project delivery aligns with objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with the DBFO contract, clarify roles and responsibilities, resolve risks and issues, produce reports, and maintain records including change management.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate emerging risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints, developing solutions as needed.
  • Lead projects through all lifecycle stages: feasibility, design, construction, and handover, informing investment proposals at each stage.
  • Maintain global or master programmes for portfolios, oversee income and cost profiles, and challenge project managers' inputs.
  • Manage client relationships at project and portfolio levels.
  • Chair and drive regular project reviews covering risk registers, project income and costs, change control, priorities, and correspondence management.
  • Oversee project change control processes.
  • Allocate projects to project managers based on their knowledge, experience, and capacity.
  • Work closely with construction teams to ensure permits, certificates, and reporting are managed correctly.
  • Manage NEC Contracts Options as Project Manager.

Working arrangements:

  • Willingness to travel to other offices and depots as required.
  • Periodic site visits, including night shifts.

Full Driving License required.

Qualifications/skills:

  • Experience in highways construction & maintenance or similar.
  • Project Management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, APMP).
  • Minimum HNC / HND in civil engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of design, environmental requirements, H&S legislation, and interface coordination.
  • CSCS Card.
  • Leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and commercial skills.
  • Understanding of Lean principles.

Personal Attributes:

  • Proactive problem solving, excellent communication, safety focus, adaptability, resilience, presentation, team building, prioritization, and relationship development skills.

Experience:

  • Senior-level experience in highways projects or similar.
  • Proven project lifecycle management experience.
