About The Role

Exciting Career Opportunity: Senior Project Manager – M25 London Orbital Motorway

Are you ready to elevate your career and lead a transformative infrastructure project?

Balfour Beatty Connect Plus Services (CPS) is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Senior Project Manager to join our team and play a pivotal role in the M25 London Orbital Motorway Project.

Location: This role can be based at our Leatherhead, South Mimms, or Dartford offices, with occasional travel to project sites or other office locations. Some site visits, including night shifts, may be required.

At CPS, a joint venture with Balfour Beatty, Atkins, and Egis, we operate and maintain the busiest motorway in Europe—the M25. With over £100m annual investment, we carefully plan and execute essential infrastructure improvements alongside ongoing maintenance. If you're looking for a high-impact career in highways, there’s no better place to gain unmatched experience and take on exciting challenges.

We are looking for an innovative and proactive Senior Project Manager with a strong project delivery background to spearhead complex highway schemes from inception to completion. These projects range in value from £20k to £4m+ and require strategic leadership, exceptional stakeholder management, and a drive for excellence.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Stakeholder Collaboration – Establish and maintain strong relationships with the Portfolio Manager, SPM, Construction/Supervisor Teams, and key internal/external stakeholders to ensure alignment on project objectives and performance.
  • Project Compliance & Risk Management – Ensure adherence to the DBFO contract, resolve risks proactively, maintain accurate reporting, and manage change effectively.
  • Risk & Issue Resolution – Identify, assess, and mitigate emerging risks, constraints, and dependencies, escalating issues as needed and implementing strategic solutions.
  • End-to-End Project Leadership – Oversee projects through feasibility, design, construction, and handover, guiding investment proposals for clients at every stage.
  • Programme Oversight – Manage the global/master programme for project portfolios, ensuring accurate cost and income forecasting.
  • Client & Portfolio Management – Serve as a key liaison at both project and portfolio levels, chairing fortnightly project reviews to drive performance and accountability.
  • Process & Efficiency Improvements – Lead project change control initiatives, reviewing processes and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Team Leadership & Resource Allocation – Assign projects based on expertise and workload, ensuring optimal performance across teams.
  • Compliance & Permitting – Work closely with construction teams to manage permits, certificates, and site reporting in line with project requirements.
  • Contract Management – Administer NEC Contracts (various options) as a Project Manager.

Working Arrangements

  • Travel flexibility – Willingness to visit project sites and network offices as required.
  • Site Visits – Occasional night shifts may be necessary.
  • Hybrid Working – Minimum 60% office-based work required.

Who we're looking for

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record in highways construction & maintenance or transferable project management experience.
  • Recognised Project Management qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2, APMP) preferred.
  • Minimum HNC/HND (or equivalent) in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Strong design interface coordination experience.
  • In-depth understanding of H&S legislation, CDM regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • NEC contract administration experience.
  • Valid CSCS Card.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with experience in team management and performance optimisation.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to service excellence.
  • Financial acumen – Experience in budgetary control and commercial oversight.
  • Familiarity with Lean principles.
