Job summary

QinetiQ is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead complex defence technology programmes at either Bristol or Boscombe Down. The role is hybrid, 37 hours per week, with 3 days onsite on average, and requires accountability for project performance, governance and safety across the lifecycle.

You will manage cross-functional teams, ensure delivery within budget, and maintain SQEP alignment to contract requirements, with opportunity to influence critical milestones across programmes.

Qualifications

• 8 years’ experience in leading projects and working within project teams.
• Comprehensive knowledge of project management and full lifecycle.
• Eligible for SC clearance and awareness of security requirements.

• Integrated Planning - define outputs into detailed plans covering scope, quality, time, cost, resources, risk, issues and benefits.
• Budget & Cost Control - ensure project controls and timely performance information.
• Risk & Issue Management - identify, assess, plan responses and manage issues.
• Reviews - attend project reviews and assess status against targets (RAG).
• Stakeholder Engagement - collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to secure commitment.

APM PMQ, PMI PMP or AIPM CPSPM (and/or working towards certification)

The Role

As the Senior Project Manager, you will be fully responsible and accountable for overall project performance throughout the lifecycle, including baseline management and delivering within budget ensuring the relevant governance and assurance is undertaken (in line with the BMS and PLF) to deliver successfully to our customers.

Also accountable for Health & Safety of the project. Lead and motivate cross functional project teams to deliver the contractual outputs and/or outcomes delivering on time, within scope and budget, also adhering to all security requirements. Ensuring that the project team selected has the required SQEP to undertake project delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Integrated Planning - Actively take forward the definition of outputs into detailed planning incorporating multiple areas such as scope, quality, time, cost, resources, risk and issues, communication, success and completion criteria and benefits management (called Project Management Plan), keeping up to date throughout the project lifecycle
• Budget & Cost Control - Working closely with the *Portfolio Office to ensure project controls are in place and accurate and timely performance information is available. Understand the importance of proactively managing project performance throughout the project lifecycle
• Risk & Issue Management - Proactively, identify and assess risks, plan and implement responses to those risks and respond to issues that affect the project
• Reviews - Attend project reviews, using performance reporting to provide an assessment on the status of the project in relation to the RAG and proactively manage any variances
• Stakeholder Engagement - Fostering a collaborative approach. Engage, influence and collaborate with all stakeholders (internal, including Finance, Commercial, People, Enterprise Services, Portfolio Office, Technical & Supply Chain and external), ensuring on-going commitment

Essential experience of the Senior Project Manager

• Has typical 8 years’ experience of working within project teams and leading projects
• Applies comprehensive/detailed knowledge of project management, understanding the full project lifecycle

Desirable qualifications for the Senior Project Manager

• APM PMQ, PMI PMP or AIPM CPSPM, or demonstrate working towards equivalent certification from accredited body
• Has comprehensive/detailed knowledge of lifecycles and experience of applying one or more independently – Agile, Waterfall and Hybrid

Boscombe Down

MOD Boscombe Down is a unique operational site featuring the longest military runway in the UK. Primarily focusing on providing testing, evaluation and support services for aviation and aerospace systems. Renowned for its extensive flight-testing capabilities the site plays a vital role in the UK’s aviation defence contributing to the development, testing and airworthiness of military aircraft enhancing operational readiness and effectiveness.
