Job description

The Senior Project Manager is a key leadership role within our Thames Water Capital Delivery function. This role will focus on directing project teams for major infrastructure improvements within the Thames Valley region. You will be accountable for multiple complex projects from inception to completion, guiding and developing a multidisciplinary team to ensure successful delivery within time, cost, and quality parameters.

What you’ll be doing as a Senior Project Manager
  • Serving as a client-side Senior Project Manager responsible for investment from business need promotion through solution definition, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and completion.
  • Leading, developing, and mentoring a team of project management professionals.
  • Taking overall accountability for project schedule, cost, and quality, and leading the project team to meet these objectives.
  • Establishing a health and safety culture and leading with a safety-first mindset.
  • Collaborating with external supply chains and driving contractor performance.
  • Supporting solution definition to meet project objectives, preparing clear business cases, and promoting value-driven proposals for endorsement.
  • Ensuring effective communication with authorities and stakeholders to facilitate smooth and timely project delivery.
  • Contributing to continuous project-wide improvement and achieving stretch targets.
  • Managing contracts commercially to achieve optimal outcomes for Thames Water.
  • Ensuring compliance throughout the project lifecycle, maintaining governance, and overseeing the transition of project outputs into operations.

Role Location: This role is based on a hybrid basis at Clearwater Court, Reading. You will need to work on-site 2-3 days a week, depending on business needs. The successful candidate should have access to transportation, as this role includes a car allowance of £5,800.

What you should bring to the role
  • Proven experience delivering complex projects in infrastructure, utilities, or the built environment, with stakeholder engagement skills.
  • An engineering or relevant degree.
  • A project management or business administration qualification.
  • Experience in managing and leading teams.
  • Knowledge of procurement, contract administration, tendering, and negotiation.
  • Ability to make risk-based and analytical decisions, and develop project timelines aligned with milestones.
  • Confidence in communicating with stakeholders at all levels.
