Job description

The post-holder will be responsible for managing projects in the NCL Cancer Alliance Primary Care portfolio, including:

COMPASS (Community Pharmacy Assessment for Barrett's Oesophagus and Reflux Symptoms)

NCLCA is working on a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) funded innovation project to support early cancer diagnosis. The COMPASS Project aims to identify undiagnosed patients with Barrett's oesophagus (BO) and early-stage oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC) in pharmacy settings and through community outreach.

The Senior Project Manager Will Be Responsible For

  • Design and implement a diagnostic pathway for capsule sponge endoscopy across healthcare organisations including community pharmacy, general practice, voluntary and community organisations, Community Diagnostic Centres, and secondary care.
  • Support diagnosis and case finding of BO/OAC symptoms in at-risk populations in community settings.
  • Reduce health inequalities in BO/OAC detection.
  • Utilise data and analytics to target interventions.
  • Ensure effective clinical and patient engagement.

Cancer Clinical Coding Minimum Dataset (MDS)

Accurate clinical coding is vital for improving cancer care in primary care settings. The Senior Project Manager will support the clinical lead in implementing the MDS to enhance coding practices.

Project Leadership

  • Manage COMPASS Project implementation across pharmacy settings, community diagnostics centres, and primary/secondary care.
  • Implement the Cancer Clinical Coding Minimum Dataset.

Pharmacy Engagement

  • Establish engagement and training programmes with participating pharmacies.
  • Develop relationships with pharmacy teams at individual and ICB levels.
  • Create mechanisms for utilizing patient identification data.

Diagnostic Pathway Development

  • Coordinate capsule sponge testing implementation across pharmacies and CDCs.
  • Establish referral processes for further investigation.

Health Inequalities & Outreach

  • Develop strategies for under-served populations.
  • Address barriers to testing service access.
  • Partner with communities to raise symptom awareness.
  • Monitor engagement across demographic groups.

Data and Analytics

  • Support data collection system implementation.
  • Ensure data governance and compliance.
  • Collaborate with analysts on data interpretation for actionable insights.
  • Use evidence to guide project implementation.

Public/Patient Involvement

  • Engage with relevant groups and service user representatives.
  • Incorporate public and patient perspectives into project design and delivery.
