Primary Objective

The primary objectives of our Commissioning (Cx) Senior Project Managers are to support the Managing Principal in driving the delivery of financial targets, ensuring Cx services are safely, diligently, and accurately planned, managed, executed, and recorded, while meeting all obligations towards our people and clients.

Responsibilities

In the role of Senior Project Manager, you'll be expected to:

  1. Drive consistent and effective communication across Cx and the HDR Enterprise.
  2. Support the development and successful delivery of financial budgets and forecasts.
  3. Serve as a Senior/Escalation point for key clients.
  4. Leverage company-wide project delivery tools and systems for successful project delivery, workload forecasting, staff recruitment, development, and performance management.
  5. Conduct contract negotiations and management with key clients.
  6. Collaborate with accounting leadership to monitor and manage financial aspects of business operations.
  7. Work with our safety team to develop guidance and safe work systems related to commissioning, including safety protocols and KPIs.
  8. Participate in leadership meetings at local, regional, and global levels as required.
  9. Assist in risk management planning for projects.
  10. Support recruitment, including hiring of graduates and apprentices.
  11. Contribute to the annual budgeting process for commissioning planning.
  12. Demonstrate commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and HDR’s values.
  13. Identify and develop new business opportunities.
  14. Collaborate on strategies for engaging key clients.
Other Duties
  1. Structure team training and succession planning to enhance performance and future expertise.
  2. Support bid processes by delivering high-quality, viable bid documents.
  3. Assist in quality management for the Cx Business class.
  4. Ensure no claims are made on PI and that all contract documents are diligently checked.
  5. Participate in interviews and recruitments, subject to approval.
  6. Develop and maintain best practice technical documents and guides.
  7. Sign off on timesheets and expenses, and approve holiday requests for direct reports.
  8. Conduct health, safety, and quality audits during site visits.
  9. Maintain quality and ISO systems.
Skills and Experience
  • BEng in Mechanical Engineering (Building Services) or MEng in Electronic & Electrical Engineering (Building Services). Extensive project management experience is required.
  • At least 5 years in a project management or commissioning management role within a building services context, familiar with quality and environmental policies, and proficient in MS Office.
  • Strong communication skills, client-focused, flexible, and resilient.
  • Self-motivated, professional, and committed to continuous self-improvement.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Dedicated to exceeding client expectations and identifying opportunities to enhance service levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, developing supportive relationships.
  • Confident and logical communicator capable of engaging attention.
  • Good problem-solving and planning skills, with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Capable of working under pressure and managing change effectively.
  • Innovative, open to change, and supportive of new ideas.
  • Judgmental skills to assess potential and facilitate development of others.
  • Outcome-focused with decisive action-taking skills.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience.
  • At least 5 years of project management experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, estimating, scheduling, and project management software.
  • Ability to collaborate with design teams and communicate effectively.
