Job summary

Ridge and Partners LLP in Cardiff is seeking an experienced construction project manager to lead a team and oversee a diverse portfolio across schools, healthcare, retail, and defence sectors.

You will drive project delivery from inception through completion, coordinating consultants, managing risks, and reporting to clients. The role includes NEC project management accreditation training and a strong focus on collaboration with the design team.

Qualifications

  • Ideally chartered RICS, CIOB, APM.
  • Strong Education and Healthcare experience.
  • Strong contract administration experience, NEC & JCT.
  • Employers Agent roles where applicable.
  • Security Clearance will be required (via Ridge).
  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Significant consultancy construction project management experience.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects and client relationships with limited support.
  • Ability to initiate and drive new projects from inception to close out (de-risking).
  • Willingness to travel to various client sites across Wales.
  • Proficient in MS Office, MS Project and Asta PowerProject; P6 desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with leading and managing the project management team.
  • Establish detailed Client’s brief and responsibilities of consultants and specialists.
  • Establish lines of communication and reporting procedures with the Client and within the design team.
  • Arrange feasibility studies, site surveys, site investigations and site evaluation.
  • Advise on/implement the selection and appointment of all necessary consultants and specialists.
  • Co-ordinate and obtain planning consents and all necessary statutory approvals.
  • Prepare and maintain the programme for all pre and post contract activities and monitor progress.
  • Manage finances from inception to completion, including cash flow forecasts, monitoring project expenditure and payments.
  • Manage the Design team, including risk and value management.
  • Oversee Building Control liaison where required and chair progress meetings.
  • Prepare regular reports to clients on project inspection, scheduling and defects liability.
  • Take day-to-day responsibility for projects and be single point of contact for client liaison.

Job description

If you have experience of construction project management and are ready for a new challenge, this role will offer you the opportunity to develop your skills. This role is based in our Cardiff office located in the centre of the city and will offer you the opportunity to be involved in a variety of different sectors including, schools/universities, retail, blue light, healthcare and defence. This diverse portfolio of projects provides our team with variety to continue growing their careers at Ridge. To support you in this role we offer NEC Project Management accreditation training via an approved course.

What you need to do to be effective in this role
  • Assist with leading and managing the project management team
  • Establish detailed Client’s brief and responsibilities of consultants and specialists
  • Establish lines of communication and reporting procedures with the Client and within the design team

  • Manage finances from inception to completion, including cash flow forecasts, monitoring project expenditure, and recommendations of payments by client, as well as internal budget and resourcing
  • Manage the Design team, including leading on risk and value management
  • Oversee the administration of the Building Control liaison (where required)
  • Chair progress, co-ordination and project meetings throughout the contract period
  • Prepare regular reports to Clients on all aspects of the project inspection, scheduling and acceptance of works required under the defects liability and maintenance provisions of the contract
  • Day-to-day responsibility for projects
  • Provide single point of contact taking responsibility for all aspects of the project and liaise with the client

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and particularly MS Project and/or Asta PowerProject is essential, P6 desirable

You are an excellent communicator who can articulate complicated issues between our clients and our highly skilled project teams. You will also need to show ambition and a willingness to work flexibly, both in the office and on-site, whilst demonstrating commercial awareness and exhibiting the ability to lead teams to complete the projects to agreed timelines.
