As a Senior Project Engineer in the Operations Programme, you will have the opportunity to work and play a key part in ground-breaking projects that will shape the future of London Gatwick, operating in a fast-paced, energetic environment.

Your role is pivotal in leading the design of a variety of strategically important projects for Gatwick Airport with typical budgets up to £20m, ensuring that design meets project requirements, whilst achieving value for money. This role involves all stages of the project process, including ensuring projects are installed in line with approved designs.

The role

Reporting to the Programme Design Manager, you will be a key member of the Construction team, responsible for ensuring design meets needs across varied multi-million-pound projects, including working in defined sub-programmes on complex projects.

Other duties include:

• Developing project scopes to support business needs
• Finding innovative design solutions that meet project scopes, are deliverable, meet GAL engineering standards, and are cost-effective
• Developing clear and transparent design briefs for external design consultants
• Managing and reviewing external design outputs to ensure effective implementation, quality, and alignment with milestones and governance tollgates
• Collaborating with the Asset Information Team and stakeholders to determine asset information requirements for design and construction contracts

What are we looking for?

The live environment at Gatwick requires our teams to be flexible, adaptable, with problem-solving skills and an innovative outlook. Involved in projects from inception to completion, you will work alongside multiple stakeholders. Additionally, this role requires:

• Experience in multi-disciplinary engineering design or design management, preferably in a live operational environment with safety-critical outcomes, managing multi-year infrastructure programmes over £20 million (preferably in infrastructure, building, or operational development fields)
• Degree-level education or equivalent in architecture, engineering, or construction
• Chartered status with a recognized Engineering Institution is highly desirable
• Knowledge of scoping and briefing processes
