Senior Project Engineer (E&P) Role Overview

Reporting to the Programme Engineering Manager, you'll lead the development and implementation of the E&P Central Route NW&C for ASPRO, Enhancement Development, and Self Delivery. This role involves specific E&P (HV and LV distribution) design and construction responsibilities and duties as a Designated Project Engineer on multi-disciplinary Railway Projects.

The role includes managing design and construction activities in areas such as:

• 25kV distribution
• 11kV distribution
• Signalling power supply
• DNO/Low voltage supply
• Point heating
• M&E
• Awareness of OLE

You will ensure engineering standards are adhered to in relation to design and construction, complying with PACE, legislation, Railway Group and company standards, and Network Rail procedures. The role requires a self-motivated individual to lead engineering development, monitor staff qualifications, and oversee project execution within the Programme.

This position is based at Baskerville House, Birmingham, requiring a minimum of 3 days in the office weekly, with flexibility for other locations.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Project Engineer, your responsibilities include:

1. Implementing digital railway systems and procedures to ensure cost-effective, high-quality, and safe project delivery, including legislative compliance.
2. Monitoring the competence of Project Engineers and providing guidance.
3. Applying engineering controls and verifying contracts adhere to standards.
4. Conducting risk assessments and environmental management in line with policies.
5. Ensuring project compliance with standards and procedures.
6. Advising on construction activities, testing, commissioning, and site supervision, including CDM regulations.
7. Verifying contractor competence.
8. Reviewing design and construction activities and conducting audits for safety and quality assurance.
9. Performing duties as Designated Project Engineer per Network Rail standards.
10. Leading accident investigations to identify root causes and disseminate lessons learned.

Candidate Requirements

Successful candidates will have:

• Significant experience in engineering disciplines, especially in construction and design projects across multiple disciplines.
• Technical qualifications at least HND level or equivalent.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Experience with major contracting.
• Knowledge of safety case structuring, safety management, and quality assurance.
• Understanding of independent assessment arrangements.

Desirable qualifications include:

• Six Sigma Yellow Belt
• Chartered status or equivalent
• Environmental awareness in engineering works
