Junior Project Engineer (Structural)

Location: Derbyshire

Salary: Up to �55,000 (DOE)

Company Overview:

Our client is a leader in providing engineered solutions to the energy and renewable energy sectors, including Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, and waste energy. They design and fabricate mechanical components such as Structural supports, Heat Exchanges, Housing enclosures, Exhaust systems, Ventilation, and Ducting.

The UK arm employs around 30 staff, with 50% being Design and Projects Engineers. Globally, the company employs over 800 staff, mainly at manufacturing sites in Europe. They have experienced growth, with turnover increasing from �30 million in 2018 to �80 million in 2023, and are expanding their design team to handle more projects.

Role Summary:

As a Project Engineer, you will collaborate with the structural design team, advising on concepts and project improvements. Your main responsibilities include:

  • Preparing concept design drawings and calculations
  • Conducting technical calculations, simulations, and analysis (e.g., Beam Load, Foundations, Structural, Stress, Bending Moments, Materials)
  • Attending customer meetings in the UK and overseas
  • Interpreting customer requirements, specifications, and drawings
  • Performing detailed engineering calculations using software or hand calculations (Structural, fluid dynamics, finite element analysis, mechanics)
  • Supporting project management, engineering, quality, and supply chain teams
  • Assisting in producing user manuals and instructions
  • Conducting site surveys, condition assessments, and producing technical reports
  • Providing technical support to internal and external customers
  • Engaging in research and development to maintain market leadership

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience in mechanical design or project engineering roles
  • Engineering Qualification Level 5 or above
  • Understanding of fabricated structures/components and manufacturing techniques
  • Ability to interpret/create piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Willingness to learn and progress into more technically challenging roles
