Job description

Elevation Engineering Division are working with an industrial gases business who deal with a range of industries and processes, including power generation, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors. They are looking for a Senior Project Engineer in the South Yorkshire region.

The Senior Project Engineer will be required to:

  • Support execution and delivery of projects safely, on budget and on time
  • To be commercially aware in ensuring that project design/costs developed are competitive & fit for purpose to support the business to deliver the required returns/win new 3rd party sales while balancing SHEQ requirements
  • Responsible for identifying and reporting project risk including through ensuring that the appropriate project strategies are supported and implemented. This includes variation management to increase sales and limiting/controlling supplier/contractor variations
  • To plan and co-ordinate engineering resource (internal & external) to execute projects
  • To develop Project Proposals to achieve financial approval for project budgets
  • Ensure that contractors demonstrate ownership and understanding of SHEQ strategy and objectives and that the teams comply with statutory requirements, company policies and procedures
  • Build effective relationships with key customers and suppliers to ensure that the department is customer (internal & externally) focussed and responsive
  • Ensure good engagement & communication with the customer (internal or external) throughout the project lifecycle. Seek and act on customer feedback
  • Manage site construction activities such as contractor control, permit to work, working at height, plant installations, mechanical and electrical installations, testing and commissioning of the inclusive of pressure testing, acceptance, documentation in the form of as built data, health and safety file incorporating operating and maintenance manuals.

SHEQ

  • Manage resources to ensure that all activities under span of responsibility are performed effectively and safely and carried out within the legislative and Management Systems frameworks e.g., BOC standards, Health & Safety at Work Act, COMAH Regulations, COSHH, WSOE, PSSR, ISO9001, ISO14001 etc.
  • Ensure contractors are sufficiently trained, competent and have the necessary capacity to fulfil their SHEQ responsibilities in executing a project. Practical Competency Assessments are completed for all contractors, and they are compliant with BOC standards

Be an advocate and take a proactive lead continually looking to improve safety

  • Set high standards in and personal commitment to SHEQ.
  • Understand and own operational risks within area of responsibility and ensure sensible control measures are established and maintained.
  • Maintain SHEQ metrics for your projects for leading and lagging indicators.

Key Skills & Knowledge required:

  • Work effectively in a team environment and operate individually with drive to succeed
  • Strong communicator and ability to work with many stakeholders and sponsors
  • PC literate: (MS Office suite; SAP, CAD, SharePoint, Microsoft PPM)
  • Ability to analyse costs to a budget
  • Ability to define and undertake scope development
  • Ability to support senior engineers and managers in the project delivery tasks
  • Knowledge of engineering practices/ contracting/ Project Management/ Industry standards
  • Financial awareness and reporting metrics
  • Basic risk management
  • Health and Safety Legislation including: Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR)Construction Design & Management Regulations (CDM)
  • Degree/HNC/HND Engineering qualification in mechanical/electrical discipline or equivalent
  • Experience in Industrial Gases, Hydrogen or Nuclear Power
  • Knowledge in project engineering in either contracting or operating company environments, proposals, tendering, sub-contract activity, financial/cost management
  • Proven track record of project engineering on time, cost and to appropriate SHEQ standards
  • Professional membership to IMechE, APM, IET or equal and working towards Chartership
