Through this we’re determined to be one of Wales' leading inclusive employers. We’re creating an inclusive transport network that everyone in Wales can be proud of.

Who we are

At Transport for Wales, we’re on a mission to transform transport in Wales and make it fit for the future, whether that’s rail, bus, walking or cycling. We want to inspire a nation to change the way it travels, so that we all travel more sustainably and help to combat the climate emergency we’re all facing.

We’re an open and inclusive place to work, where everyone is welcome and our people are supported to reach their full potential. We want to create an environment where our people can grow and succeed. This is key to enabling us to deliver on the promises we’ve made to the people of Wales to build a sustainable transport network that meets their needs.

Role responsibilities
  • Lead engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle to ensure the project satisfies engineering requirements, performance and reliability targets within time constraints, cost and quality.
  • Work with the TfW team to develop and maintain a new suite of standards and procedures to ensure TfW projects are safe, interoperable, technically compliant and are delivered to the specified quality within constraints of time and cost.
  • Develop project scoping documents, Engineering Management and System Definition Plans specifying how each project is being delivered and to ensure legal compliance.
  • To satisfy client requirements by working collaboratively with the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor to provide the correct level of engineering governance and assurance.
  • Provide technical representation within the Client organisation in terms of value engineering, sustainability, system safety and entry into service to optimise engineering solutions.
  • Manage the transfer of assets from projects to the Infrastructure Manager, monitoring engineering compliance to provide longevity and ensure the product we are providing is fit for purpose and can be maintained in the future.
  • Liaise with operational partners, the Rail Safety and Standards Board and regulatory bodies to demonstrate engineering has been delivered against the appropriate compliance to ensure the correct legislation is adhered to.
Who we’re looking for
  • A Chartered Engineer or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of leading teams on capital infrastructure projects.
  • Experience of delivering engineering projects.
  • Knowledge and experience of the following engineering disciplines, civil and structural, mechanical, electrical, signalling, telecoms and E&P.
  • Competent and experienced in the Client and Principal Designer roles under CDM.
  • Demonstrable experience of working collaboratively, with a focus on building strong networks and improving overall service delivery.
  • The ability to set up new processes and ways of working and embed effective change.
  • Knowledge and experience of coordinating rail engineering disciplines and design approvals.
  • Experience of working with the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) or other regulatory bodies.
