About the Role & Team

In this role, you will be supporting our newly established Walt Disney Imagineering office in London. Our London based Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) team is supporting our extensive cruise ship portfolio expansion and works closely with our Disney Cruise Line (DCL) team. This role will suit someone with a background in quantity surveying.

As our Senior Project Controls Estimator, you will be responsible for estimating of project’s capital budgets during ship development phases and then running the cost control, change management and risk assessment during a project’s execution phase. You will be part of an international team of estimators and have close liaison with project managers, creative designers and technical experts.

This role will require you to be onsite 4 days a week and will involve regular travel to the Germany based shipyard. Please note, this role is a project based fixed-term contract until end of 2030.

What You Will Do

  • This team is engaged in performing take-offs and estimating all portions of sophisticated, highly integrated projects including hotels, theme park attractions, cruise ships and other expansions of the Disney experience. Theseproject estimates includebut are limited to, interior fit out, themed finishes, show elements, ridescope and project soft costs. This role will focus on the Disney cruise ship portfolio expansion.

  • Estimates are prepared using incomplete or ambiguous information and performed with minimal supervision.

  • We participate in the detailed estimating, negotiating, and timely settling of contractual change orders during the project.

  • We review and estimate proposal specifications, drawings, and other supporting documents to determine the scope of work and required estimate contents.

  • This team talks to operators, designers, and contractors to provide estimating, cost data, analysis and scenario planning.

  • We provide the design staff and project team with detailed cost guidance/value engineering/alternatives and compare estimates where possible to comparable/equivalent historical experiences.

  • We provide cost management during the entire life cycle of a project, continually quantifying risks, developing mitigation plans and forecasting the total project Estimated Final Cost (EFC) with the project team and divisions.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Significant estimating and/or cost control experience with a strong preference toward experience with projects of higher complexity, scope, scale and growing professional responsibility.

  • Preconstruction through implementation estimating experience

  • Capable of independently producing conceptual level estimates with minimal supervision.

  • Understanding of construction documents (drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts, etc).

  • Ability to utilise the AutoDesk suite, e.g. for reading technical drawings in 3D modelling

  • Experience using quantity takeoff software

  • Confident using the MS Office suite incl. SharePoint, with expert knowledge in Excel. Knowledge of PowerBI or similar data visualization tools will be beneficial to this role.

  • Ability to collaborate across multiple subject areas in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Proven decision-making and relationship building ability and confident presenter who can adapt to their audience and communicate optimally, both in writing and verbally.

  • Organization skills, accuracy and attention to the detail.

  • Ability to organize complex financial and estimating data and communicate to audiences of varying levels.

  • Able to work independently, meet deadlines and manage time effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge specific to the Hospitality, themed entertainment, cruise line, and/or resort industry

  • Degree educated, preferably in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
