Job summary

Portsmouth Water is seeking a Project Accountant for Havant Thicket Reservoir to support the Finance Manager and drive financial success across CRA and AWA workstreams. You will provide critical financial insight, control and monthly reporting to investors and stakeholders.

The role focuses on robust controls, budget development, cost reporting and collaboration with the project team, with BPSS security checks and a commitment to flexible working arrangements.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills throughout project teams.
• Excellent analytical capability to interpret cost reports and produce decision-ready insights.
• Knowledge of accounting regulations, capital allowances and tax.
• Advanced Excel; proficient with PowerPoint, Word and collaboration tools.
• Experience with large construction projects and contract management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain robust financial controls for the project.
• Ensure controls are adhered to and reviewed periodically.
• Develop and maintain the project budget, spend and forecasting through completion.
• Ensure supplier costs are reflected accurately in monthly management accounts.
• Liaise with project team to prepare programme costs for reporting.
• Produce monthly accounts and investor reports (Southern Water and Portsmouth Water).
• Provide ad hoc decision-support reports for change impact or dispute resolution.
• Support regulatory reporting and engagement with key stakeholders.
• Manage spend control processes and cashflow reporting.
• Support year-end financial reporting procedures.
• Assist in producing monthly Steerco, JPAG papers and Finance month-end packs.
