Job description

Location: UK based with the option for Remote Working . This role will require occasionaltravel to HQ in London and within the UK to fulfil operational requirements.

Contract details: Fixed Term – From July 2025 – To 31 March 2027.

Working Pattern: Full-time: The following flexible working options are also available, Remote Working, Compressed Workweeks, Flexible Hours, and Job share.

WFD's Global Programmes

Global LGBT+ Programme is a Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) funded programme which aims to promote and protect the rights of LGBT+ people through challenging the rollback of rights and progressive legislative and policy reform. The programme is being implemented in Africa and Asia as well as work to build on and/or apply WFD’s body of global research and programming experience around LGBT+ inclusion and equality.

Democratic Resilience in a Digital World programme tests how and where digital technologies can strengthen democratic practices, supports research on the digital democracy space and facilitates and supports cross-fertilisation and learning across existing programmes working on democratic resilience and digital democracy.

The Senior Programme Officer (SPO) supports the delivery of WFD’s global programmes.

The SPO is expected to perform a variety of tasks and work in all phases of a project, from its early stages to completion, undertake and prepare programme documents, draft narratives, and develop activity-based budgets to contribute to the preparation of new bids. In addition, they will support Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) and communications.

They will work closely with the Head of Global Thematic Programmes, as well as WFD’s Senior LGBT+ Adviser, Head of Practice Accountability, MEL staff and other WFD staff as required. They will play an important and vital role within the team, providing efficient coordination, administrative and financial support, ensuring the implementation of projects and programmes meet the highest standards.

Under the guidance of the Head of Global Thematic Programmes the Senior Programme Officer provides an administration and communication bridge between country-based offices and UK teams, liaising with relevant Embassies in-country, grantees, and other programme stakeholders and across countries where WFD has projects and programmes as required. The SPO will also be responsible for proactive information-sharing and coordination with the programme’s partners, donors, parliamentarians, civil society, and high-level government officials.

About You

Experience and Skills required: Essentially you should have specific experience and skills in the following areas.

  • Experience in a similar role supporting international programme field teams, comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced multi-country, multi-region programme and working across time-zones.
  • Previous experience in and/or strong interest in working on LGBT+ rights programming
  • Proac tive and takes ownership for work within a small team.
  • Comfortable communicating across cultures and building understanding of organisational processes, coordinating between country-based teams and London based teams and ensuring reporting deadlines are clearly communicated.
  • Proven experience providing extensive and broad range of programme administration, finance/budgetary and logistic support.
  • Exceptional planning and organisation skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written communication skills – experience preparing reports, writing briefs and conducting research.
  • Self-motivated and flexible with the ability to multitask and effectively plan/prioritise and organise own workloads.
  • Comfortable using programme management, reporting and evaluation systems and process and the ability to learn internal systems.
  • High level proficiency level in spoken and written English
  • Intermediate user of Microsoft Office suite.
