This Project Management role is accountable for the day-to-day management and delivery of technical development and/or production projects, ensuring the timely delivery of equipment versions/variants to agreed programme timescales.

Working within an applied matrix organisation (in collaboration with engineering, procurement, supply chain, and production departments), the role will foster and encourage the culture and operational effectiveness of Integrated Project Teams (IPTs).

As a member of the Bids and Programmes job family, you will support an integrated – whole Marshall – Life Cycle Management Processes (LCM) and Business Management System (BMS), bringing your experience and knowledge to support the wider team.

  • Accountability for all project requirements (e.g., technical, commercial, project management, delivery), ensuring they are clearly understood and documented in the appropriate Project Documentation set.
  • Accountability for the engineering development phases of the project(s), including Phase Reviews, Design Reviews, and Gate Reviews, ensuring:
  • Customer Requirements are interpreted and confirmed as “Compliant”, or addressed when “Partially Compliant” or “Non-Compliant”.
  • All consequential requirements (e.g., standards) are fully assessed.
  • Design solutions meet the Business Line’s “Design for Procurement” and “Design for Production/Manufacture” requirements.
  • Design Gate Reviews of SRR, SDR, PDR, CDR, and any B-Model FQT trials are fully completed.

Leading the Project(s) assigned IPT(s); managing and resolving matters relating to costs, schedules, and technical issues.

Working with Procurement & Supply Chain colleagues, managing subcontracts to ensure delivery aligns with project and programme needs.

Ownership of the Project(s) budget; leading and approving allocation to Work Packages and WBS items. Ensuring accurate reporting of BAC, EAC, ETCs, and cost variances, utilizing trend analysis and generating monthly EVM data.

Managing all project financial targets in support of Revenue, Cash, and Margin.

Managing project risks with clear definitions and mitigation plans, collaborating with Project Controllers and Planners.

Accountability for the Project Change Management regime and maintaining the Project Performance Measurement Baseline.

Deputising for the lead Programme Manager/Director as required.

Supporting adherence to Lifecycle Management (LCM) Processes and managing resource requirements.

Supporting 'Lessons Learned' activities.

Apply if you have most of the following:

  • Proven experience in front-line programme management roles in the defence domain, including delivery roles in Bids, Projects, and Programmes.
  • Deep knowledge of engineering development techniques, project planning, control, risk, and opportunity management. Experience in multiple methodologies is desirable.
  • Experience of post-delivery support and understanding of DRACAS.
  • Experience leading multi-functional teams in a matrix-managed environment.
  • Experience with procurement, supply chain, and full product development lifecycle of complex systems.
  • Ability to interpret reports from Project Scheduling tools and IBP.
  • Well-versed in EVM, SPI, CPI, SRA, CPA, and their setup within projects and programmes.
  • Experience managing multiple project plans and practical risk management.
  • Team building, decision-making, conflict management, and mentoring experience.
  • Desirable: APM PMQ or PMI PMP, including APM Risk Level 2; technical background in systems engineering is a plus.
