Job description

Jewish Care’s Community Centres are at the heart of changing people’s lives for the better. We aim to ensure that Jewish older people lead a meaningful life, have a sense of belonging, and participate in their community through attending our Community Centres.

We are seeking a Senior Programme Assistant responsible for the front-line delivery of day services to Jewish Care members, including activities such as chair-based exercise classes, discussion groups, card games, and board games.

This position works Monday to Thursday for a total of 30 hours per week.

Schedule:

  • Monday 8:30 am and Wednesday 8:45 am start – Bethnal Green
  • Tuesday 8:30 am start – Stamford Hill
  • Flexible location on Thursdays

What you will be doing:

  • Designing, arranging, and delivering the day centre programme for a culturally specific Jewish Day service for older people, including those living with dementia.
  • Supporting volunteers in participating and contributing to the Centre's activities.
  • Identifying and reviewing risks, hazards, and health and safety concerns with relevant colleagues.
  • Leading daily operational setup and takedown of Centre furniture and equipment.
  • Reviewing service quality and incorporating feedback to improve Centre operations.
  • Collaborating with programming teams to set up technology for members to participate in activities from home, such as online discussion groups and exercise classes.
  • Carrying out actions like personal care duties as indicated in individual care plans.
  • Supporting minibus drivers with member collection and transportation arrangements, including booking and managing community transport options.

What you will need:

  • Relevant qualification in Health & Social Care or willingness to work towards one.
  • Experience in recreational/social activity work.
  • Experience working with individuals and groups, especially older adults with varying abilities and needs, including those with dementia.
  • Experience working with families, carers, volunteers, and community members.
  • Awareness of physical and mental health issues affecting older people.
