The Polio Team works with partners of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), country governments, donors, and collaborators to build and implement the global strategy to eradicate Polio. We develop relationships and uplift each other through our journey together. The Role

As a key member of the Polio Endemics team, the Senior Program Officer, Country Support, Pakistan will be responsible for engaging key partners (WHO, UNICEF, CDC, Rotary International, Gavi) and national polio eradication programs in Pakistan to interrupt wild poliovirus transmission. The focus will be on enhancing the impact of foundation assets to improve supplementary immunization activities, strengthen polio surveillance, routine immunization, and support the application of new tools and strategies, especially in supporting female frontline workers.

Ideal candidates will have exceptional operational and project management skills, interpersonal skills to manage stakeholders at all levels, and impeccable attention to detail. They will engage directly with provincial polio programs in Sindh to drive outcomes toward global polio eradication certification by 2026. Candidates should be enthusiastic about public health programming in emergency contexts, experienced in managing complex partnerships, and have a track record of achieving measurable results.

The Senior Program Officer will be based at the foundation’s London office and report to the Deputy Director, Polio Endemics.

What you’ll do

  1. Collaborate with foundation teams, international development partners, and Pakistani government entities to implement national polio eradication strategies.
  2. Identify and support activities to improve immunization quality, focusing on Sindh, including technical assistance, data reviews, monitoring, and community engagement.
  3. Support efforts to address immunity gaps among sub-populations, such as migrant and nomadic groups.
  4. Lead initiatives to improve the work environment for female frontline workers, enhancing communication, addressing barriers, and creating career pathways.
  5. Participate in technical reviews at provincial and district levels to improve program operations and community participation.
  6. Advise on financial resource requirements for polio eradication efforts at provincial and district levels.

Your Experience

  • MPH or relevant post-secondary degree in public health, international development, business administration, or equivalent.
  • Experience in public health program management.
  • Experience with immunization or polio eradication in Pakistan or similar settings is advantageous.
  • Experience working with global partners like GPEI, Gavi, WHO, UNICEF, and in Pakistan/developing countries.
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with policymakers and development partners.
  • Experience managing projects in a matrix environment.
  • Knowledge of Pakistan and/or Afghanistan health systems is preferred.
  • Skills in influencing program implementation and health outcomes in developing countries.
  • Ability to foster gender equity in programs.
  • Strong initiative, proactive attitude, and excellent partnership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences, including senior management.
  • Urdu and/or Pashto language skills are assets.

Other Attributes

  • Willingness to travel up to 60%, mainly within the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
