Job description

Senior Production Technician

Permanent - Full Time (37 hours per week)

£31,551.07 per annum (plus anti-social working hours options available)

We are recruiting a Senior Production Technician to provide technical and production support for the Marlowe Theatre's Main House and Studio programmes. The role involves contributing to special events, learning and participation projects, and artist development work.

The Marlowe Theatre’s technical team is renowned for professionalism, efficiency, and best practices on the touring circuit. As the theatre expands into its own productions and touring, the Senior Production Technician will play a key role in delivering these initiatives.

Ideal candidates will have good knowledge of the theatre industry, current health and safety practices, interpersonal skills, and experience with a range of technical equipment.

We seek a collaborative, proactive, and creative problem solver with a friendly, customer-focused approach. The role is multi-skilled; we welcome applicants from all technical backgrounds and are particularly interested in those with experience or willingness to develop skills in stage and counterweight flying.

We value passionate, resilient individuals who support their colleagues.

About Us

The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, is one of the UK’s most successful regional theatres, awarded UK Theatre of the Year in 2022. Our mission is to be the hub for performing arts in Kent, shaping the region’s cultural landscape.

Our programme includes West End musicals, national companies, symphony orchestras, and high-profile tours, alongside theatre, dance, opera, music, and comedy in our 1,200-seat Main House. We are beginning to produce large-scale plays made in Kent for touring nationally. Our 150-seat Studio focuses on developing new ideas, supporting resident and visiting companies, and hosting sharings, shows, and family productions.

We focus on youth skills development, co-delivering a UAL Level 3 Performing Arts course, hosting Matthew Bourne’s Cygnet School and the RSC’s Associate Theatre program. Our Writers’ Room supports regional talent and our producing ambitions. As a major regional employer, we offer apprenticeships and work experience to over 100 young people annually.

We are undertaking major capital projects, including transforming the historic Poor Priests’ Hospital into a Creative Learning Centre and planning long-term theatre development to enhance our technical and producing capacity.

Our loyalty strategy ensures engaged audiences, and industry recognition includes a Stage Award and a Workforce Award from UK Theatre. We are committed to environmental sustainability as a Creative Green organisation.

The Marlowe Theatre is an inclusive employer, valuing diversity and recruiting based on merit. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds, regardless of gender, sexuality, religion, ethnicity, age, neurodiversity, disability, or other aspects of identity, including veterans.
