We are seeking an experienced
Product Safety Engineer to take a lead role in developing and delivering Safety Cases for cutting-edge defence systems. This is a unique opportunity to join a high-impact safety engineering team supporting the Royal Navy's submarine capability.
This position is ideal for candidates with a background in
complex systems safety,
functional safety, or
control systems safety engineering within the UK defence or high-integrity sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a small team responsible for delivering functional Safety Cases to agreed schedules
- Develop detailed functional safety justifications
- Conduct complex safety analyses, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Event Tree Analysis (ETA)
- Communicate effectively with cross-disciplinary teams including Systems Engineers and Human Factors SMEs
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements and maintain alignment with UK defence safety standards
Essential Experience and Skills:
- Degree in a STEM discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Proven track record of leading safety teams and delivering functional Safety Cases
- Strong expertise in safety analysis techniques and system safety justification
Desirable Experience:
- Submarine systems knowledge or experience in other naval/defence platforms
- Understanding of complex control systems or vehicle control safety
- Familiarity with MOD safety processes and ALARP principles

About the Safety Engineering Team:
You will play a vital role in influencing the design and integration of systems on advanced UK submarine platforms. You'll gain in-depth knowledge of submarine systems and how they interact, while ensuring safety is central to every stage of the system lifecycle.
You'll contribute to the entire safety case lifecycle - from hazard identification and risk assessment to the development of robust safety arguments and ongoing safety management.
