Senior Product Manager, Journals

Location: Cambridge

Salary: Salary Plan, 70,000.00 GBP Annual

Our client is seeking a Senior Product Manager to work within their product management and innovations team. This role is advertised as an 18-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of a permanent position afterward.

In this role, you will focus on delivering strategic product management and innovation to support their journal portfolio. As a member of the Product Management team, you will collaborate with senior management to develop and optimize journal products and services for researchers, authors, reviewers, editors, librarians, and funders globally.

The core responsibilities include supporting the journals product strategy and lifecycle management. Experience in developing and launching digital products, especially in a commercial context, is valuable and will contribute to broader innovation initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have experience developing product management strategies and launching digital scholarly journal products.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a product management strategy for journals platforms, focusing on the Publishing Business Modernisation (PBM) programme, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Manage and prioritize the author workstream backlog and roadmap, balancing business value, customer needs, and technical feasibility.
  • Ensure long-term development and integration of functionality to deliver value.
  • Collaborate with leadership, UX designers, and technology teams to create engaging experiences.
  • Create product roadmaps and manage project interdependencies to meet milestones.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders across editorial, publishing, technology, sales, marketing, and customer service.
  • Partner with senior leaders to define, prioritize, and implement platform and product strategies.
  • Promote a customer-centric approach to product development.
  • Develop business cases and ROI analyses for new initiatives.
  • Ensure platform enhancements address user needs and behaviors in scholarly publishing.
  • Lead development of product propositions and value communication for diverse customer segments.
Main Requirements
  • Degree in Business Administration, technology, science, or related field; a degree in chemical sciences is desirable but not essential.
  • At least 5 years of experience in product management.
  • Successful track record in launching and managing digital products.
  • Strong commercial and financial understanding, including digital licensing and packaging models.
  • Experience managing relationships with third-party platform providers.

This role is based in Cambridge but offers hybrid working options, with attendance at the Cambridge or London offices at least twice a month.
