Senior Product Inspection Engineer
The Product Inspection function provides measurement expertise to support key engineeringactivities from product performance validation to new product development. We have a greatopportunity for an experienced engineer to join a diverse team of inspection engineers andtechnicians, using state-of-the-art measurement technologies and facilities to support thedevelopment of cutting-edge ICE technology towards achieving carbon-free goal.
Carry out dimensional and surface measurement according to design specifications,using microscope, hand gauges, contact and optical measurement systems.
Produce detailed inspection report and communicate technical information effectivelywith key stakeholders.
Lead inspection method, measurement process development and continuous qualityimprovement.
Innovation and lean process development.
Collaborate with colleagues, customers, suppliers, research new technology to improve
department capability to meet product development and programme needs.
Supervise junior engineers and students.
Equipment calibration and maintenance.
Ensure EH&S and Quality Management System conformance (IATF 16949).
Support department targets, budget, performance metrics and quality standards.
Degree in appropriate engineering discipline + 5 years’ experience.
Master’s degree in metrology or precision engineering discipline.
NPL Dimensional Measurement Certificate – Level 1 & 2 would be beneficial.
Proven experience in automotive sectors and precision engineering. Knowledge of diesel
common rail fuel injection systems, test environments and diesel engines is a plus.
Solid fundamental knowledge of dimensional metrology principles and best practices.
Proven experience with surface finish measurement.
Experience with manual and digital microscopes, contact and optical 3D metrology
equipment.
Data driven mindset, experience in applying design for inspection and statistical analysis.
Applied knowledge of traceability, measurement uncertainty, gauge R&R, Measurement
System Analysis (MSA).
Experience with writing measurement programme and process automation.
Experience with imaging processing.
Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
3D CAD experience.
Programming skills using Matlab, Python and VBA.
Experience of mentoring apprentices or junior engineers.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
To be a self-starter, self-motivated and willingness to learn new skills.
Solid problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure willing to go the extra mile.
Good understanding of 5S and workplace organisation.
