Job Summary

Our advanced additive manufacturing methods are used in several high-profile projects, including the production of critical components for engines.
We are looking for a process engineer with experience in the laser powder bed fusion process to enhance the design engineering capability at GKN Aerospace Engine Systems in Trollhättan, Sweden. You will join a team of experienced materials and process engineers dedicated to technology and product development. You will also contribute to Materials Solutions Business Area’s industrialization journey with your knowledge of the laser powder bed fusion process and understanding of requirements in the aerospace industry.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will contribute to the implementation and industrialization of the laser powder bed fusion process for aerospace applications. As a member of project teams, you will contribute to the selection of build parameters such as build layout, support and process parameters. You will be central in product verification activities including review of instructions, technical plans for process control, material verifications plans etc.
You will support technology activities to improve process capability and robustness. You will collaborate with our specialists and support them in establishing in-house standards, as well as feedstock and manufacturing post-process requirements.
Your previous experience with the laser powder bed fusion process and understanding of its characteristics will be important assets in your work leading and executing problem solving activities, including identification of root causes and implementation of corrective actions.
In line with our rapid advancements in additive manufacturing, your daily responsibilities will focus on ensuring quality and delivery, while also identifying and driving improvement initiatives for long-term success. You will be encouraged to share your ideas and questions and have the opportunity to challenge yourself every day.
Qualifications
• MSc degree in materials or manufacturing engineering or equivalent.
• A minimum of 3 years of academic or industrial experience with laser powder bed fusion processes.
• Very good knowledge and understanding of the physics and mechanisms of the laser powder bed fusion process for metallic materials.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to write technical documents. Proficiency in Swedish is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience from the aerospace industry related to manufacturing processes
• Experience with aerospace materials such as titanium and nickel-based alloys
• Experience of LPBF manufacturing post-processes including inspection methods (Heat treatment, HIP, surface treatments, NDT, etc…) and in-situ monitoring.
• Training and/or experience in lean tools and techniques
• Proven problem-solving skills
• Interest in digitalization and automation of manufacturing processes
• Interest or experience in simulation of manufacturing processes
