Job Description

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Localise and implement the global privacy program in Wise licensed entities
  • Advise on the privacy aspects of Wise platform partnerships and arrangements with partner banks and financial institutions, including contractual arrangements
  • Support expansion activities for launching Wise products and services in new jurisdictions
  • Manage teams responding to data subject requests and data protection-related queries
  • Manage teams reviewing and assessing third party vendors, partnerships and data integrations from a privacy perspective
  • Manage the creation and review of data processing records and compliance assessments, including data protection impact assessments
  • Support the development and implementation of privacy governance frameworks with key stakeholders in engineering, security, and risk
  • Maintain data privacy policies, procedures, and best practice documents
  • Develop and deliver privacy and data protection training
  • Support periodic global and regional audits of privacy compliance within Wise
  • Keep up with evolving regulatory requirements globally and translate them into actionable business requirements
  • Assist the Global Head of Privacy in responding to regulatory inquiries and investigations
  • Draft reports for the C-Suite and Oversight Committees
Qualifications

To thrive in this role, you will be a self-starter, a great influencer, and a strong communicator. You should be comfortable working in grey areas and making judgment calls at speed. Attention to detail and the ability to handle competing priorities and differences of opinion are essential. You should also have strong project management skills and be able to collaborate across teams to find practical solutions. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent academic credentials and a minimum of 8 years of privacy experience at a top-tier law firm or in-house
  • Significant exposure to data protection and privacy issues in the UK and Europe, especially regarding EU/UK data in sophisticated market scenarios
  • Experience handling privacy inquiries, complaints, and incidents
  • Admitted to practice law in the UK or an equivalent jurisdiction
  • Experience in privacy by design and data protection impact assessments
  • Experience dealing with data protection regulators on privacy matters
  • Proven ability in drafting and negotiating privacy-related contracts and developing compliance frameworks
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English
  • A problem-solving attitude, using regulation and data to drive business decisions
  • Strong relationship management skills to build partnerships across operations, engineering, and risk
  • Comfort working across multiple jurisdictions and business lines
  • An understanding of digital and consumer-focused businesses, including new and developing sectors (advantageous)
  • Ability to drive projects from inception to completion with attention to detail
  • Relevant privacy qualifications (e.g., CIPM, CIPP)
  • Financial services experience (a plus)
  • Experience managing a team
  • Familiarity with relevant technologies like data anonymization, PETS, AI, and ethical frameworks
