Job summary

ALTEN in Horsham is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead the architecture and integration of advanced fuel cell and electrolysis systems within multiple programmes. You will shape system design, govern technical delivery, and mentor engineers to drive industrialisation of clean energy solutions.

You will influence technology strategy, manage risks, and ensure alignment with business objectives while collaborating with customers and partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering or equivalent military experience.
• Significant experience leading systems engineering activities within complex programmes.
• Demonstrated expertise in system architecture, integration, and product development.
• Track record of technical leadership across multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical authority for system architecture, performance, and integration across multiple fuel cell and electrolysis programmes.
• Lead the development, review, and approval of system architectures aligned with objectives.
• Provide technical governance across projects, including design reviews, risk management, and trade-offs.
• Lead resolution of complex cross-functional issues with significant business impact.
• Influence roadmaps and tech strategies through system-level expertise.
• Develop and embed digital-first approaches to stack and system development.
• Lead verification and validation planning, execution, and interpretation.
• Support customer engagements, technical proposals, negotiations, and partnerships.
• Mitigate system-level technical risks and mentor engineers.
• Contribute to improving systems engineering processes and IP strategy.
