Penguin Recruitment Ltd is supporting a leading multidisciplinary consultancy in London to appoint Senior/Principal Town Planners. This role offers exposure to major infrastructure and development projects across energy, transport, and buildings, with ownership of project delivery and client relationships.

You will lead planning teams, advise on consenting processes, and contribute to bids and business development. Hybrid working and professional development opportunities are on offer.

Qualifications

• Degree in Town Planning or a related discipline is required.
• MRTPI status or working toward chartership.
• Experience in planning consultancy, infrastructure, or a related environment.
• Knowledge of TCPA, DCO, TWAO or similar consenting processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Act as Planning Lead or support Planning Leads on major projects.
• Manage planning projects from inception through delivery.
• Provide planning advice across consenting, strategic planning and development projects.
• Support bids, tenders and framework submissions.
• Work closely with environmental, engineering, design and project management teams.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
• Identify new business opportunities.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior team members.
• Prepare high-quality planning reports, presentations and documentation.

Job Title: Senior / Principal Town Planner

Location: London

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading multidisciplinary consultancy with the appointment of experienced Town Planners at Senior and Principal level to join their growing London team.

Following a strong pipeline of project wins and continued growth, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planner to join a highly established business working across some of the UK’s most significant infrastructure and development projects.

The role offers genuine variety, with exposure to major projects across renewable energy, water, transportation, nuclear, buildings and places, strategic planning and wider infrastructure.

The Opportunity

As a Senior/Principal Town Planner, you will play a key role in delivering planning advice across a diverse portfolio of major projects. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, work closely with multidisciplinary teams and develop strong relationships with clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Acting as Planning Lead or supporting Planning Leads across a range of major projects.
• Managing planning projects from inception through to delivery.
• Providing planning advice across consenting, strategic planning and development projects.
• Supporting and leading bids, tenders and framework submissions.
• Working closely with environmental, engineering, design and project management teams.
• Developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
• Supporting business development and identifying new opportunities.
• Providing guidance and mentoring to more junior members of the planning team.
• Preparing high-quality planning reports, presentations and technical documentation.

About You

You’ll ideally have:

• A relevant degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• MRTPI status or be actively working towards chartership.
• Strong experience within planning consultancy, infrastructure or a related environment.
• Experience across TCPA, DCO, TWAO or similar consenting processes.
• Knowledge of strategic planning and planning policy.
• Experience working on or supporting major infrastructure projects.
• An understanding of EIA processes would be advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
• Experience developing and maintaining client relationships.
• The confidence to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
