Job description

Are you an accomplished mechanical engineer ready to take on a senior role at the forefront of mission‑critical design?

At Black & White Engineering, you’ll join a team that is redefining the future of high-performance infrastructure across Europe. Based from our London office, this opportunity places you at the centre of designing and delivering hyperscale and colocation data centres - projects that demand technical excellence, innovative thinking, and a deep understanding of how electrical systems support the digital world around us.

As an experienced Mechanical Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping resilient, energy‑efficient, and future‑ready facilities that power global cloud services, AI computing, and large‑scale digital operations. You’ll work with leading clients, guide multidisciplinary teams, and influence strategic technical decisions that have lasting real‑world impact. For someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and enjoys navigating complex engineering challenges, this is a chance to step into a role where your expertise will be recognised, valued, and continuously developed.

Your Future With Us
  • Leadership on Mission‑Critical Projects – You’ll take the lead on designing high‑performance mechanical systems for hyperscale and colocation data centres, influencing everything from concept strategies through to completion. Your technical decisions will have a direct impact on performance, resilience and long‑term reliability.
  • Strategic Client Partnership – You’ll work closely with major clients across Europe, offering technical direction, engineering assurance and strategic insights. Your ability to translate complex challenges into clear solutions will position you as a trusted advisor.
  • Technical Depth & Innovation – You’ll develop and review advanced mechanical designs including HVAC strategies, cooling for high‑density environments, chilled water systems, air handling units, heat rejection systems and associated mechanical plant. You will stay at the forefront of emerging technologies, regulatory changes and industry trends.
  • Cross‑Disciplinary Collaboration – Working closely with architects and specialists across electrical, structural, sustainability and BIM teams, you’ll deliver coordinated, efficient and future‑ready engineering solutions.
  • Talent Development & Team Growth – You’ll mentor and support junior engineers, contribute to resource planning and help shape a team culture built around innovation, continuous improvement and shared success.
  • Business Influence & Growth – You’ll play an important role in identifying new opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and contributing to the strategic growth of the mechanical discipline.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical building services engineering, ideally within mission‑critical environments such as data centres, healthcare or high‑tech manufacturing.
  • Expertise in HVAC system design, cooling strategies for high‑density environments, chilled water systems, AHUs, heat rejection systems and associated mechanical plant.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, IES and CFD modelling software.
  • Strong ability to prepare specifications, schedules, contract documentation and budget‑aligned design deliverables.
  • Proven experience leading complex projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with clients at senior levels.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it) with a recognised institution.

In addition, you will be joining a community that focuses on learning and development through regular lunch and learn sessions, investment in accredited professional courses or educational programmes. You can set the pace for your professional development, and whatever path you choose, you will receive relevant support.
