Cundall in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to join their data centre team. The role involves delivering mechanical design solutions and leading projects while collaborating with clients and supporting junior engineers.
The ideal candidate should have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields and experience in consulting engineering. Cundall values initiative and problem-solving, and provides mentorship through their DC101 programme.

As part of this role, you will be joining our dedicated data centre team, established in 2006 and responsible for delivering over 2,000 MW of capacity worldwide.
We’re looking for an experienced, client‑focused Principal Engineer with mechanical design experience to join our data centre team.
You will have excellent mechanical design and consulting experience, ideally from a highly technical background. Your previous project experience will demonstrate an ability to transition into our data centre sector, even if you have no prior data centre experience. Our specialist designers will mentor you through our DC101 programme to develop the necessary skills.
You’ll play a leading role on some of the world’s most high‑profile data centre projects, driving the delivery of regional and global projects, engaging directly with clients, shaping technical strategies, and reviewing and developing designs. You’ll support junior engineers, contribute to project planning and fee proposals, and help shape the direction of the growing team.
We’re looking for a qualified engineer educated to a degree level in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical discipline. You may be Chartered or working towards it; either way we’ll support your career path.
You should have gained experience in a consulting engineering role and be ready to take on a new challenge with greater responsibility and impact. We value initiative, problem‑solving and a collaborative mindset.
