Overview

Job Title: Hydrology & Water Resources Specialist
Salary: £40,000-£60,000 (dependent on experience)
Location: UK (hybrid working available)
Type: Permanent

You'll be joining a specialist Catchment Science team delivering technical services and advice across water resources, hydrology, hydroecology, water quality and hydrogeology. The role will focus on contributing to investigations and models that support water resource planning and regulatory compliance, with opportunities to lead on projects, mentor junior colleagues, and develop innovative approaches.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to hydrological and water management aspects of WINEP investigations and WRMP inputs.
  • Develop rainfall-runoff models (e.g. GR6J), applying robust calibration techniques.
  • Support wider hydrology applications, including flow naturalisation and reservoir mass balance modelling.
  • Apply knowledge of demand management and water resources modelling tools (e.g. Aquator, PyWR, MISER).
  • Stay up to date with UK water management regulations and guidance.
  • Assess climate change resilience using UKCP18 datasets.
  • Supervise small hydrology teams, mentoring and supporting junior colleagues.
  • Ensure high-quality client and regulator-facing deliverables.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to deliver hydrological inputs into diverse projects.
  • (Desirable) Apply programming skills (Python and/or R) to strengthen project outputs.
