Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer - Good Salary - Permanent

Industrial and Off-Road Systems - South Derby Area - Rail and Mining Sector

A Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer is required to join a market-leading, innovative Industrial and Off-Road Systems company with nearly 100 years of history. The company is a leading UK supplier with significant growth prospects, making this an excellent opportunity. The Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer will report to the Engineering Director and lead a small but expanding team working on designs for industrial systems and off-road products for the rail and mining sectors. These products vary in size and are powered by diesel, electric, battery, or hybrid technologies. This role offers a chance to join a collaborative team that works closely with all levels of staff, including directors and engineers.

Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer - Key Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Control Systems Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in an engineering and product design environment.
  • Ability to design electrical products, including creating 2D schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • Ideally IEC 61508 certified.
  • Knowledge of Simulink and Stateflow modeling.
  • Some knowledge of FPGA toolsets is preferred.
  • Experience with LV/HV electrical systems up to 2000 Volts DC.
  • Understanding of CANbus protocols, J1939-71, J1939-76, and CANopen safety.
  • Knowledge of machine functional safety standards EN 61508 and EN ISO 13849.
  • Ability to update existing designs collaboratively with mechanical engineers.
  • Support the technical documentation process as needed.
  • Must be able to commute to the South Derby area.

Responsibilities and Additional Requirements

  • Experience working with ERP systems like Microsoft NAV.
  • Familiarity with Bills of Materials management.
  • Proficiency in 2D CAD software, ideally AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC power systems and generator control.
  • Support production with technical inquiries.
  • Experience with PLC software and CANbus control systems.
  • Electrical component selection experience.
  • Preferred background in Off-Road, Rail, EV, or Heavy Platform product design.
  • Some knowledge of 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor.

Hours and Benefits

  • 37 hours/week with flexible working options.
  • Working hours: 7:30 - 16:00 Monday to Thursday, 7:30 - 12:30 Friday.
  • 25 days annual leave plus 8 statutory holidays.

Additional Benefits (post 3-month probation)

  • Employer pension contribution of 4%, with an additional 4% employee contribution.
  • Death in Service benefit equivalent to 4 times salary.
  • Performance-based bonus scheme (non-contractual).
