You will work closely with project managers, design leads and multidisciplinary teams to produce high‑quality designs that meet client, statutory and industry standards.

You will act as a subject matter expert in EICA engineering, providing technical leadership and clear communication to explain complex concepts to clients, suppliers and delivery partners. This role offers the opportunity to drive impact across AMP8 programmes, contributing to cost‑effective, environmentally responsible solutions while shaping the future of the EICA function within the company.

Location: The role offers a mix of office, site and hybrid working. You will be based at our head office in Fleet, Hampshire, with site visits across London and the South of England.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the production of EICA design deliverables, ensuring all outputs meet client, industry, and legislative standards.
  • Work collaboratively with design managers, project managers and engineering teams to develop integrated design solutions from concept to detailed design.
  • Produce drawings, specifications, schedules, calculations and control philosophies with clarity, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Carry out technical reviews of third‑party designs, assessing risks and opportunities to optimise final solutions.
  • Support design reviews, technical meetings and workshops, helping secure timely approval of design deliverables.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing coaching and direction to support their technical and professional development.
  • Prepare and review design risk assessments, ensuring designs consider safety, maintainability, operability and whole‑life cost.
  • Work with commercial teams to support tender analysis, quote reviews and assessment of subcontractor proposals.
  • Manage workload effectively, prioritising tasks to meet deadlines and support the timely delivery of design outputs.
  • Support continuous improvement of internal workflows, standards and best practice across the EICA discipline.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, you will bring strong EICA technical expertise, design leadership, and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Experience: Significant experience delivering EICA‑focused design for water and wastewater infrastructure, covering feasibility, outline and detailed design stages.
  • Qualifications: Degree or equivalent in Electrical, Control, Automation or related discipline. Chartered or working toward CEng/IEng (IET) is preferred.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of electrical distribution, ICA systems, MCCs, LV design, control philosophies, instrumentation specification and integration with treatment processes.
  • Design Capability: Proven ability to produce high‑quality EICA design deliverables including schematics, calculations, datasheets, load assessments, control strategies and panel layouts.
  • Software Proficiency: Skilled in AutoCAD, BIM 360 and relevant design and modelling software used within the water sector.
  • Project Delivery: Demonstrated ability to support and lead design activities within multidisciplinary teams, ensuring designs meet standards, client specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Health & Safety: Solid understanding of CDM regulations and commitment to safe design principles throughout project development.
  • Organisation: Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage workloads, prioritise effectively and maintain attention to detail.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communicator with the ability to work closely with process, mechanical, civil engineers, suppliers and clients to develop coordinated solutions.
