Location: Gateshead (Hybrid working minimum 40% in office; site visits required)


Job Type: Full-time, Permanent (flexible working available)


Salary: £32,000 - £46,500 pa depending on experience

About the Role

Are you an experienced ecologist looking for progression in your career? We are sure you'll find a suitable position within the TEP Ecology team in our Gateshead office. We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior or Principal ecologist to join our team and help develop the ecology service in the north-east. This opportunity is suitable for ecologists with at least 4 to 5 years of experience, particularly those with technical skills in botany/habitat surveying, biodiversity net gain, or bat ecology (Level 2 bat licence holder).


You will work with a broad range of clients across the UK within sectors such as residential, urban regeneration, utilities infrastructure, commercial, and leisure. Projects may include BNG off-site delivery, green infrastructure, conservation and restoration schemes, and strategic level projects.

What you'll be doing

You will lead and contribute to a variety of projects, utilizing your field survey, assessment, and reporting skills, along with your knowledge of current best practices and the planning system. Your role may involve supervising field staff, coordinating project work with other professionals, and attending meetings with clients and design teams. You will be supported in building a project portfolio and establishing strong client relationships in the northeast, with the goal of expanding the Ecology team in Gateshead.


You will proactively assist our clients in navigating planning and licensing processes. You will monitor the financial performance of your projects and contribute to fee proposals for our work.
