Job summary

Morgan Law is recruiting on behalf of a Local Government client for a Senior Principal Accountant. You will join a small finance team to provide high quality financial support and leadership, shaping the production of annual accounts and supporting the annual audit process.

Hybrid role with 2 days in the office and a salary of £65,875 - £69,832 plus a market supplement. The successful candidate will be a fully qualified CCAB or CIMA accountant with local government experience and a track record

• Experience in Local Government finance preferred.
• Strong leadership and mentoring ability.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of Final Accounts and associated working papers.
• Support the annual budget, financial planning and three-year budget.
• Provide high quality financial advice and oversight to the finance team.

Job description

My Local Government client is looking for a qualified accountant (CCAB or CIMA) to join them as a Senior Principal Accountant. Working in a small finance team your role will be to provide high quality professional financial support and advice to the Council at and provide effective leadership to the accountancy team ensuring a high level of service is delivered. This will include playing a key role in the production of the annual accounts including extensive involvement in the annual audit process. It will also include input to the annual budget, capital accounting and involvement in projects.

Day to day your role will include:

• To be a member of, and provide input to, the Finance Team in a climate of continuous improvement and change looking to achieve high levels of customer service, innovation and excellence for the Finance service.
• Act as a mentor to the team, providing technical advice and encouraging development.
• Support the Strategic Head of Finance and play a major role in the preparation of the Final Accounts to an extremely high quality and within all reporting deadlines including all necessary financial statements working papers and returns.
• Support the Strategic Head of Finance in the preparation of the annual budget, financial plan and 3 year budget including all necessary budget working papers.
• Support the Strategic Head of Finance in any preparations required for Local Government Reorganisation

To be considered for the role you will need to be a fully qualified accountant and have previous experience of Local Government finance and accounting, ideally within areas such as collection fund, closedown, year end and statement of accounts.

The role is hybrid, with 2 days in the office and the salary on offer is £65,875 - 69,832 + market supplement.
