A critical role in the London Assembly requires a candidate with excellent media and communications experience, adept at managing outreach for elected representatives. This position entails producing media reports, writing briefings on key activities, and engaging with various stakeholders to enhance the visibility of Assembly Members' work. The ideal applicant should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a solid understanding of media strategies. The London Assembly scrutinises the Mayor's activities by questioning the Mayor about their decisions. The Assembly also investigates issues of importance to London.
There are 25 Assembly Members, elected every four years at the same time as the Mayor. The Secretariat works for the Assembly to support its activities.
The Liberal Democrat Group scrutinises the work of the Mayor across the policy areas of transport, housing, environment, policing, health, the economy, planning and regeneration, fire and emergency planning, and the Mayor’s multi-billion pound budget. Applications are invited from candidates with extensive press and media experience in a busy office and of working for elected representatives or similar high profile public individuals.
Your role will involve working closely with the team’s Senior Researcher who leads on communications and the two Research and Support Officers, including setting and co-ordinating the day-to-day work of the team. You will need to liaise with external stakeholders to ensure that the work of the group is represented and promoted through a variety of media, both proactively and reactively promoting the work of the Assembly Members. An in-depth knowledge and understanding of a variety of media is vital.
You will work across the full range of policy areas and produce policy briefings and issues papers to be communicated internally and externally. This role works closely with the team and two elected politicians in a dynamic, friendly environment. The work is fast moving and varied.

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
