DESCRIPTION

Amazon's Data Centers are industry-leading examples of innovation in security, safety, space utilization, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. We are responsible for constructing Amazon-owned sites globally.

The EMEA Data Center Construction team seeks a Senior Pre-Construction Manager to act as the main liaison between Real Estate, Design Engineering, Construction, and other key teams during initial planning, conceptual design, and design development, providing guidance on costs, schedules, and constructibility.

Our pre-Construction Managers are at the forefront of creating innovative products and transforming cloud computing. This role involves supporting the development of design standards across regional construction programs and producing high-quality, consistent documentation for processes, standards, and procedures.

We aim to find a candidate with extensive pre-construction knowledge of critical facilities combined with practical construction experience to set standards in this vital delivery phase. If you have experience in global pre-construction standards, bid documents, specifications, and working within a broad design and construction infrastructure, this could be your role!

AWS Infrastructure Services manages the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS's global infrastructure, ensuring continuous cloud service availability. We support all AWS data centers and related equipment, tackling complex challenges involving supply chain variables. We seek talented individuals eager to contribute.

You will join a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and others, collaborating to uphold safety, security, and cost-efficiency while fostering an inclusive culture that encourages bold ideas and ownership.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Represent AWS ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget while improving processes, costs, quality, H&S, and sustainability.
  2. Lead and mentor large cross-functional teams, motivating and focusing people at all levels to deliver projects.
  3. Communicate effectively across departments and with management, serving as an authority on project issues.
  4. Identify gaps in project plans and propose solutions leveraging your experience and tools.
  5. Negotiate contract terms with developers, contractors, and consultants, managing site validation, due diligence, risk analysis, design, and stakeholder management.
  6. Act as the escalation point for evaluating project feasibility, owning issues, and resolving them through influence.
  7. Lead negotiations with contractors, evaluate bids, and report on key metrics like schedule, cost, and budget.
  8. Review and contribute to global standards and template designs for data centers.
  9. Manage complex projects from site selection to permitting and contract execution, ensuring stakeholder communication.
  10. Maintain scope control through timely decisions, addressing blockers, and escalating as needed.
  11. Work with various internal and external teams to secure resources, set priorities, and drive results.
  12. Conduct negotiations and evaluate bids, proposals, and claims, including pricing and scope negotiations.
  13. Evaluate due diligence, schedule tracking, and resolve factors that could impede project hand-over.
  14. Insist on high standards, drive accountability, and lead external and internal teams, including coaching and disciplinary actions when necessary.

A day in the life

Daily, you will ensure project execution aligns with AWS standards, lead and mentor teams, communicate across departments, and manage project scope and risks effectively.
