Senior/Preceptorship Practitioner Psychologist (Band 8a or 7)

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled psychologist to join our integrated multi-agency service, working in partnership between East Sussex County Council (ESCC) - Children's Services and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT).

In this vital role, you will conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and provide tailored interventions for children and young people who are involved in Child Protection services and pre-Care Proceedings.

Your work will have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable children and their families. You will:

  • Identify and address their mental health needs.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans to foster their well-being.
  • Provide crucial support and guidance to parents and caregivers.
  • Actively contribute to the development of evidence-based practice within the service.
Main duties of the job

As part of the SWIFT CAT team, you will:

  • Conduct specialist clinical assessments for children with mental health difficulties, including those experiencing trauma.
  • Deliver evidence-based interventions to address these needs.
  • Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to enhance outcomes for children subject to Child Protection Plans and Pre-Care Proceedings.
  • Liaise with key agencies, including ESCC Children's Services, to ensure integrated care.
  • Contribute to service development and improvement initiatives.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Requirements:

  • HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Post-qualification Band 8a experience (or equivalent).
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, varied mental health setting.
  • Access to own transport for travel across East Sussex.
  • Flexible working arrangements can be discussed and agreed upon.
  • Part-time hours (minimum 22.5 hrs/week) considered.

Main Duties:

  • Manage a caseload of clients with complex needs using the Care Programme Approach (CPA) principles.
  • Conduct specialist assessments and interventions, including trauma-focused work in a multiagency context.
  • Provide risk screening, assessment, and management planning.
  • Contribute to and facilitate evidence-based individual and group interventions.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Supervise trainees and junior staff.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, research, and service improvement initiatives.
Person specification
Qualifications
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology as approved by the HCPC.
  • Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC.
  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
