Job description
Overview

The purpose of this post is to work effectively as a lead member of an Early Learning and Childcare team to oversee the delivery of a high quality, safe and balanced education and care service, which meets the needs of each young child and their families and is in accordance with relevant legislation and guidelines.

Career graded status

This vacancy is advertised as a Career Graded post, a career development opportunity. The Council is committed to supporting the successful candidate to obtain the necessary skills, abilities and knowledge to become fully competent in the role. The successful candidate will be supported to become fully competent in the role and progress through the career grade. Where a qualification is required, this will be fully funded by the Council.

School context

Brae High School is a non-denominational school located in Brae providing early years, primary and secondary education up to S6 for children from the north mainland of Shetland. Structure: Early Years, P1-P7 (includes composites) and S1-6 classes. Current roll: 329 pupils (Secondary 174, Primary 123, Nursery 32). Managed by a Head Teacher and 2 Depute Head Teachers. Responsibilities and qualification information
  • Grade of this post is H/I.
  • Post is career graded; salary and career progression depend on experience and qualifications.
  • Salary includes Distant Islands Allowance of £2,859 per annum (pro rata).
  • Permanent full-time post for 37.0 hours per week, 52.18 weeks per year.
  • Preferred candidates must join PVG Scheme or update prior to offer.
  • Successful candidate must register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) on start.
  • Relocation package does not apply.
  • Interview expenses paid from within Shetland.
  • Flexible working options available.
