Job description

Bury Council has a new permanent position available for an Advanced Practitioner within the Initial Response Team to work full time based in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Location: Bury, Greater Manchester

Working Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Main Duties as a Social Worker:

The Initial Response Team operates in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, conducting comprehensive assessments to determine the support needs of children and young people. As an Advanced Practitioner, you will manage a smaller caseload, allowing you to provide valuable support and guidance to your fellow social work colleagues.

  • Social Work Services: Deliver specialised and expert advice in complex or challenging social care cases. Manage a diverse and complex caseload, ensuring tailored support for children, families, and carers.
  • Assessments and Interventions: Lead and conduct assessments or interventions in complex and/or contentious cases. Process referrals and complete assessments per statutory requirements and departmental policies.
  • Planning and Implementation: Contribute to the creation and implementation of plans for children in need, children needing protection, children in care, foster carers, adopters, and family support. Collaborate effectively within a professional, family, and foster carer network for individual children, families, and carers.
  • Meetings and Conferences: Attend and, when required, lead child protection conferences, statutory reviews, core groups, fostering panels, adoption panels, disruption meetings, and departmental meetings, providing professional input.
  • Reports: Prepare high-standard written reports for various settings, including court proceedings.
  • Court Representation: Represent the Local Authority in court, provide verbal evidence in public and private proceedings, and justify Local Authority actions. Act as a Local Authority representative during case transfers between authorities.

Key Requirements for this role:

  • Possess a degree in Social Work (such as CQSW, CSS, DiPSW, or an equivalent qualification).
  • Must be registered with Social Work England.
  • Significant experience in relation to children and families.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting research and generating detailed reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Experienced in providing coaching or formal mentoring to individuals or teams (desirable).
